A Boy Named Dug: Holy Shit, I'm 50
http://dugsreports.blogspot.com/2013/02/holy-shit-im-50.html
A Boy Named Dug. A blog of essays on a variety of topics, primarily about boardgaming. Monday, February 18, 2013. Holy Shit, I'm 50. Not quite sure how it happened (OK, I *do* know how it happened, but was apparently not paying attention the whole time), but today I have been around for 50 years. 50 years of smartassery, skipping class, challenging authority, and tunage. Which should sound like "toon-udge". I've lost you again, haven't I? And yet you keep right on reading. Anyway, it was a bad year.
A Boy Named Dug: May 2012
http://dugsreports.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
A Boy Named Dug. A blog of essays on a variety of topics, primarily about boardgaming. Thursday, May 24, 2012. Saying Goodbye To Roger. I lost a very good friend a few weeks ago, Dr. Roger Doyle. Roger was not only my choral directing mentor and an enormous influence on my musical life, but to my life in general. I don't think my experience as one of his students was unusual when I say that he was perhaps closer to being a father figure to me than my own father. I've even been told I look quite a bit lik...

A Boy Named Dug. A blog of essays on a variety of topics, primarily about boardgaming. Saturday, March 31, 2012. Car 54, Where Are You? My arm is getting numb again, so time to stop typing. I know that several people who follow my blog were a little concerned that I'd dropped off of the planet, and I just wanted to mention a few things that had been requested or that I left hanging a bit. A Boy Named Dug: September 2011
http://dugsreports.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
A Boy Named Dug. A blog of essays on a variety of topics, primarily about boardgaming. Friday, September 30, 2011. Those of you who are burned out on deckbuilding games probably won't find enough here to rekindle your love of the genre, but you might as well try. I hear that this game takes a few plays before you start to see the deeper game (such as it is) which includes knowing when to attack other players and when to leave well enough alone. Solitaire is interesting (and not something I've mastered ye...
A Boy Named Dug: January 2012
http://dugsreports.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
A Boy Named Dug. A blog of essays on a variety of topics, primarily about boardgaming. Sunday, January 29, 2012. TK - Fall '40 through Summer '41. Just a quick update on my VASSAL game of Axis Empires: Totaler Krieg! A tough call. Occupation isn't that bad, especially as the Poles are not really able to come in in force right away anyway, but I'm still one hex away from the historical Nazi-Soviet Pact division line and it will take a while to push the Soviets out. Friday, January 20, 2012. Eric and I had...

Gathering of Engineers: May 2006
http://pdxgaming.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html
Ludographic considerations from the Silicon Forest. Tuesday, May 30, 2006. Posted by Eric @ 11:09 PM. After reading Dave's post yesterday. I found it interesting that we're heading two completely separate directions on how we want to spend our limited gaming time. Dave goes for the half turkey sandwich, and I go for the four-course meal. Probably explains our physical shapes, as well. As I alluded to last week. I spent a good amount of time this past week attempting to learn OCS. Examine the lay of the l...
Gathering of Engineers: December 2005

Ludographic considerations from the Silicon Forest. Saturday, December 31, 2005. KC’s 2005 Shout Outs. Posted by KC @ 9:54 AM. Here are my awards for 2005, in four categories with a bit of detail below. This category is for larger board games, generally more accessible to new gamers and very family friendly. Of the whole series, this Carcassonne is one of the best for easy rules that make sense, some decent choices and nice graphics. In Dallas where we had a blast with it. Ticket to Ride: Europe. Even be...
Gathering of Engineers: February 2006
http://pdxgaming.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html
Ludographic considerations from the Silicon Forest. Tuesday, February 28, 2006. Posted by Eric @ 8:23 PM. Sorry guys. nothing much from me this week. All keyed up for our trip to Vegas (we leave in 15 hours - woohoo! And don't really have anything prepared. I was going to make some comments on the controversial Essence of Euro-Style Games. I'll be writing next week's column in a post-Vegas haze, so I have no idea what you'll get :) (Anybody know of any decent game shops down there? Format. This forma...
Gathering of Engineers: August 2005
http://pdxgaming.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_archive.html
Ludographic considerations from the Silicon Forest. Wednesday, August 31, 2005. Errr, umm, hi, I think. Posted by Myk @ 11:10 PM. A quick paddle in the Med and then time to head off again. Man, I miss being a student. Anyway. As the others seem to have started with a brief summary of their gaming history, I might as well do the same. I recall playing some games with my parents. Flutter. Is it just a Scottishism? I say 'almost' because until very recently I hadn't played any wargames in an absolute age...
Gathering of Engineers: Happy Trials
http://pdxgaming.blogspot.com/2006/06/happy-trials.html
Ludographic considerations from the Silicon Forest. Monday, June 12, 2006. Posted by dave @ 5:06 PM. After ten months, the Gathering of Engineers blog will cease to be. We have all enjoyed the solid group identity and exchanges that made us unique among the gaming blogs, but we feel that the collective failure to post regularly has largely undermined that quality. The good news is that this does not reflect on the health of the Rip City Gamers, where gaming opportunities abound as much as ever. Are great...

Sunday, December 20, 2009. Frisco Library Game Day - Dec 19th, 2009. I've been delinquent with posts here. Hopefully, I can catch up on some recent gaming activities over the holidays. We had our last game day at the Frisco Public Library this Saturday, Dec 19th, 2009. Here is a slideshow with some pictures from the event. GMT Games donated a copy of Command and Colors: Ancients to be given away. Tod Wolf was the lucky winner. From 2009 12 19: Frisco Library Game Day. Links to this post. A Game of Thrones.
On Board Wargaming: Cityfight: Modern Combat in the Urban Environment
http://onboardwargaming.blogspot.com/2013/08/cityfight-modern-combat-in-urban.html
Thursday, August 8, 2013. Cityfight: Modern Combat in the Urban Environment. I have played two games of Cityfight recently and am scheduled to play it again this Sunday. I have really enjoyed our games. Not knowing where your opponent's units are really adds a lot of suspense to the game. We have been using the Basic and Intermediate game rules. The rules are really well written. We haven't found any problems with them. From my Android phone on T-Mobile. The first nationwide 4G network. 1805: Sea of Glory.

In Germany, they're tonemeisters. England calls them sound recordists. Here in Chicago, they're too busy working to grab a cup of coffee, let alone write a blog. So, as the writer in the family, I'm left to live vicariously and leave an e-trail of breadcrumbs, so Dug can remember where he worked last week. Saturday, December 24, 2011. Happy Holidays From Our Family To Yours. Hope all your dreams come true in two-oh-one-two. Happy holidays and happy 2012. ChiIL out and rock on. From Dug Production Sound.

A Boy Named Dug. A blog of essays on a variety of topics, primarily about boardgaming. Monday, February 05, 2018. Well, that took a while. I have a new blog at area21.site. Covers pretty much what I've covered here but with some more music notes, especially for younger players wanting to get into live work. Come check out the new site. It is still a bit of a work in progress, but we're getting there. Thanks for following me to the Blog Side. Tuesday, November 22, 2016. The worst part was by far how unfun...
