Two former National Hockey League players and an Olympic softball star will add to the already impressive list of inductees into the Whitby Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. Steve Cardwell was born in Toronto but moved to Whitby in 1979. Steve began playing minor hockey in Toronto before playing at the Junior B level for the Whitby Lasco Steelers in 1967-68. He then played for the Oshawa Generals from 1968-70. Steve coached minor hockey in Whitby for 10 seasons starting in 1982. During that time his teams won two provincial AA titles and an Ontario finalist on one other occasion. Whitby Sports Hall of Fame set to induct three in April. WHITBY - An Olympic sailor and two key figures in lacrosse comprise the 2013 class for induction into the Whitby Sports Hall of Fame. Chris Cook, who competed at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, will be joined by lacrosse builder Jim Brady and five-time Mann Cup champion John Fusco for the 16th annual induction ceremony, which will take place Saturday, April 27 at the Royal Ashburn Golf Club.
