Poetry

http://dwalker.id.au/DWW/bio.htm

My name is David Walker. Since there are other David Walkers already published, I usually use my initials (DW), but where the context is clear, I use David. I live in Canberra, Australia. I have worked as a research physicist, and a designer and developer of computer systems, and have taught at tertiary level in these areas.

The Stupid Baboon Got Upset

http://dwalker.id.au/Simian/simian0.htm

The Stupid Baboon Got Upset. There is a huge gulf between authors and publishers. At different times I have been on both sides: as an author of both non-fiction (I have had two computing text books published) and fiction; and as part of a small Canberra publisher (Boris Books) and on the committee of a small university press. The Simian Press cartoons were inspired by these experiences. Jump to cartoon number:.

The Only Ones Worth Having are Married

http://dwalker.id.au/Daisy/daisy0.htm

The Only Ones Worth Having are Married. These are stories about living and working in Canberra (or a town like Canberra, since no geography is needed), with the usual problems of bosses, relationships, work barbeques, where to live and surviving daylight saving that we all encounter. Petra, Emma, Sue and Kathy (not forgetting Des, Robbie and Charles) are characters that grew. The four women (and Des, although he is not named) first appeared in The Daisy Chain Theory of the Universe. Not a Bad Drop.

Songs

http://dwalker.id.au/Songs/song0.htm

There are also two songs here, on human evolution and duck shooting, written for the Animal rights songbook, Voices for the Animals. Also based on traditional tunes. Life in the Public Service. Tune: Early One Morning. Tune: The Red Flag (O Tannenbaum). Tune: Black Velvet Band. Tune: The Camptown Races. Tune: The Vicar of Bray. When the Auditors Walk In. Tune: When the Saints Come Marching In. Once in Chemist Katie's City. Tune: Once in Royal David's City. All Through the Night. Tune: Men of Harlech.

It's Not Really Like That, Is It?

http://dwalker.id.au/Stories/story0.htm

It's Not Really Like That, Is It? These are some short stories written and published over the last few years. Most of them are probably classifiable as speculative fiction, since they either put some sort of a twist on happenings in this world or are about other worlds. Written for a theme "Earthworks: writings for a small planet" in 1990. Giving the computer user what they want. A Question of Standards. Do universities have to deliver the goods? Tourism on a heritage-listed planet.

Scribbles in the Sand. Laquo; Jack of Angels. April 27, 2012 by jane virgo. In spring children ran. Through rainbows on stems. Like the strangest of flowers. Girls rocked their fairy wings. Boys worked their capes. Danced in the spring. On April 27, 2012 at 9:09 pm. I love the imagery in this poem. On April 27, 2012 at 9:21 pm. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Jack of Angels | Silver Transitions

https://silvergull.wordpress.com/2012/04/09/jack-of-angels

Scribbles in the Sand. Laquo; Our Ginger Nutmeg Kitten. April 9, 2012 by jane virgo. Jack of Angels is searching. For a ladder to Heaven. 8216;Cause he’s sprained his wing. And it hurts to fly. Little Mirriam dances around him. Asking child’s questions. Eyes flash like dark diamonds. And their baggage – a puppy and a bird. Wiggle wih curiosity and unguarded hope. Jack’s footprints shine on asphelt. Air shimmers around him. Afraid to bump a feather. Or kiss a freckle. His arms are filled with little girl.

Small Miracle | Silver Transitions

https://silvergull.wordpress.com/2012/06/21/small-miracle

Scribbles in the Sand. 2012 World Fantasy Awards Ballot. June 21, 2012 by jane virgo. Pale blue marble effect. Even the size of a marble. Light weight and seemingly fragile. As if I could crush it between my thumb and forefinger. I hold it to the light. And there is a dark mass stirring. So it lives, this egg. I put it back where I found it. On my bedside table. Hiding among fantasy books, tissues and yesterday’s jewellery. And I wake each day with curious breath. Wondering what will hatch beside my bed.

Just another WordPress.com weblog. December 22, 2011. I work for a Government I despise for ends I think criminal. John Maynard Keynes (1883 1946) English economist. Grade inflation in universities, the rise in student grades that is not accompanied with a corresponding lift in performance, is a topic that has been of interest to educators for over one hundred years [1]. Funnily enough, in a study published in 2009 [2]. And noted that Next year promises to be a watershed for the University. A quick s...
