Damn Delicious: July 2011
http://damndelicious.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Cooking for two is boring - I want to cook for the entire blogosphere! Thursday, July 28. Free-Form Plum and Apricot Tart. Question: How do you make fruit un-healthy? Answer: Add two sticks of butter to it. As much as I love reading Cooking Light. And eating sensibly, there's something so satisfying about boatloads of butter. Somehow it feels a little bid badder to do it in summer, with so many fresh things around. In the end it was a lot more trouble than it was worth, and I wish I'd just saved the frui...

Cooking for two is boring - I want to cook for the entire blogosphere! Thursday, September 6. Meals for the Invalid: Carrot-Orange Soup and Cream of Broccoli. If you read any old cookbooks, you're likely to find a section on how to feed the elderly, ill and infirm. Invalids, they used to call them. Often invalids needed special foods - easy to digest and chew, but full of things that would keep one's strength up. Things like beef tea, toast, and that old standby, chicken soup. This tastes like sunshine a...

Our Summer of CSA - Week 5. 1 lb plums (about 8). 3/4 cup plus 2 tbsp sugar (to taste, based on how sweet plums already are). 1 cup heavy cream. 1/2 tsp kirsh (I left it out - just helps soften ice cream). Makes about 1 quart or so. Preheat the ...

Cooking for two is boring - I want to cook for the entire blogosphere! Saturday, June 26. Our summer of CSA - week 2. Next we tackled the collards. A variation on this recipe. Previously posted on the blog, was a great way to keep the stove use to a minimum. In the variation, from my new cookbook Fast, Fresh and Green. You make a little dressing with honey and cider vinegar and pour it over the top of greens cooked with garlic and pepper flakes just as they're finishing (not unlike this recipe. One of my...

Cooking for two is boring - I want to cook for the entire blogosphere! Thursday, March 14. Concord Grape Jam in Nine Steps. This fall, we bought a house. With grape vines. Behold the bounty:. Now imagine about five more bowls like this and you'll get a sense of what we harvested in October. What to do with so many grapes? I'd made concord grape sorbet two years earlier. And it had sat in the freezer for months untouched. The easiest choice seemed jam. It's good to have a yard. Cooking for two is boring -...

http://damndelicious.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Cooking for two is boring - I want to cook for the entire blogosphere! Saturday, May 7. A few months ago at a party we met a guy who's opening an ice cream store not too far from us. He doesn't know it yet, but he and I are going to become best friends. He's going to let me taste all the new flavors before they go public, and he's going to love my peanut butter and jelly sandwich ice cream. Edited to add. The ice cream shop is. Over in Prospect Heights. And they've (sort of) done the PB&J thing. I got in...

Cooking for two is boring - I want to cook for the entire blogosphere! Sunday, January 15. If you are like me, your fridge still contains half a bag of cranberries from Thanksgiving. Throw food out. But if it's salvageable, why not? Mixed with a little Cook's Illustrated. 1 tsp baking powder. 1 1/4 cup sour ...
