EVENT CLOSED – Urban Wine Xperience, August 1 2015. East Bay Vintners Alliance. Welcome to East Bay Urban Wine Country. Winemaking in an urban environment has a long history in the Bay Area. Prior to the early 20. Century, most winemaking in Northern California was conducted in the cities of San Francisco and Richmond. Grapes were brought in from the surrounding vineyards, usually by rail, and the wine was produced on a large commercial scale. It could then be easily distributed by rail or sea.
