Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes 2009. Saturday, May 16, 2009. The next village we stopped at was Loubche. We had a quick hie to a research facility called the pyramid. It is a facility operated by the Italian adn Nepal governments. They are currently working on research on weather and pollution. The highest bakery in the world. It was amazing to be there! Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes 2009. Thursday, May 7, 2009. First day on the trail. We gathered at a Tea house and had some time to get organized. Our guide selected 3 porters and they bundled up our gear. Two of the porters are 18 years old but looked like they were 12. Each porter carried at least 70 to 90 pounds. Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes 2009. Sunday, May 3, 2009. It is almost 12:30am and we are in our final stages of prep for the trip. Mike, Megan and I have (finally) completed our organizing and packing. We are waiting for Nick to arrive home from college and we will help him get ready. We head out to the airport. At 7:00am. Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes 2009. Saturday, May 9, 2009. Third day on the trail. We spent the night last night in a small village, Monjo. Which did not have Internet. So this is our first chance to update the blog. This village is the largest one since Kathmandu. It has market day on Saturday and we were able to do some damage to you wallets. It will be nice to have 2 nights in the same Tea House as we can do some clothes washing. I will let Mike give you the technical details of the hike so far.
