Ventrikel Septum Defect (VSD). Het ventriculaire septum defect is een veel voorkomende aangeboren hartafwijking. Door spontane sluiting wordt het op volwassen leeftijd minder vaak gezien. De VSD’s worden onderverdeeld in 3 groepen: perimembraneus, musculeus en subarterieel. Bij een perimembraneus VSD kan het septale klepblad van de tricuspidalisklep het defect (deels) afsluiten, hierdoor kan de suggestie worden gewekt dat er een septum aneurysma aanwezig is. Musculeus VSD op doorgekantelde PLAX.

Vena Cava Superior Sinistra Persistens (VCSSP). Een persisterende linker vena cava superior is de meest voorkomende variant van het thoracale veneuze systeem. Een VCSSP komt in 0,3% van de bevolking voor. Bij een VCSSP is de linker vena brachiocephalica niet volledig ontwikkeld en de linker bovenste extremiteiten, het hoofd en nek hebben hun afvoer naar het rechter atrium via de sinus coronarius, met als gevolg dat de sinus coronarius dilateert door volume overbelasting. Elke echocardiogram behoort een evaluatie van de LV dimensies, wanddiktes en functie te beschrijven. Goede metingen en zijn essentieel en kan gevolgen hebben voor therapie. De LV dimensies moeten in PLAX worden gemeten, einddiastolisch en eindsystolisch als de kleppen (MV en AoV) dicht zijn. De meting bevindt zich in de basale gedeelte van de LV door de chordae.
