Thoughts on Education Policy: Friday Notes
http://www.edpolicythoughts.com/2014/02/friday-notes.html
Thoughts on Education Policy. Friday, February 21, 2014. A few brief notes on some smaller stories this week:. A lot of people seem to be discussing the new report. Released yesterday finding that students who didn't submit test scores to colleges performed virtually the same as students with similar GPAs who did. It seems like most people and most of the coverage (e.g. NPR. Another day, another wild-eyed report about how it's impossible to fire teachers. Not only do I not buy that administrators can't.

Thoughts on Education Policy. Thursday, March 13, 2014. How Does Poverty Affect Academic Performance? Today I continue the series examining the ways in which poverty influences academic performance. Part 1. Before we can answer that, we need to first understand why. Poverty would matter. Below, I briefly discuss some theory and literature that points us toward some possibilities. In short, while there may be sufficient reason to believe that housing policy can. Positively and significantly impact the aca...

Thoughts on Education Policy. Thursday, March 6, 2014. How Does Poverty Influence Academic Performance? Find out starting next week . . . I read, seemingly everywhere about how poverty does or doesn't influence students' performance in schools (including NY Times on poverty. USA Today on assessments. Sociological Images on SAT scores. Ed Week on grit. And Brookings on college enrollment/graduation. But I notice one thing in common among these pieces - nobody actually seems to know exactly why. 1) Parents...
Thoughts on Education Policy: The Two Types of TFA Alums
http://www.edpolicythoughts.com/2012/09/the-two-types-of-tfa-alums.html
Thoughts on Education Policy. Wednesday, September 19, 2012. The Two Types of TFA Alums. Almost ten years ago now (where has the time gone? That's starting to come true. Countless TFA alums have become principals, begun charter schools, and so on. One became the head of the whole DC school system. And now we're beginning to see TFA alums entering politics (my local school board race in Nashville, for example, featured two TFA alums both vying to unseat the chair of the board). And I know a lot of TFA and...

Thoughts on Our Education. A view on education from a young educator. Sunday, August 30, 2009. Update About Prep Time. So far, I am loosing the battle. I only have one of my subjects planned out beyond a day, I haven't submitted any of my lesson plans to my department head, and I haven't graded a single assignment yet. And to top it all off. I spent the first weekend home sick and in bed. This is going to be an adventure of a year indeed. Posted by Dustin Cornelius. September 13, 2009 at 9:41 PM.

Thoughts on Our Education. A view on education from a young educator. Sunday, August 29, 2010. Long Time no Post. Well, I must say that I am not having a lot of success at this blog thing so far. I started last year with the hope of documenting some of my learning and experiences as a young educator. I didn't expect myself to be so busy that I completely forgot about it. Speaking of this school year, I only have four classes. Two of my periods have been allocated to help with administrative duties...
