Praying with our eyes open. Putting a ‘breath in the box’. March 18, 2015. Tags: breath; learning; self regulation; wisdom; stillness. We should have put a breath in the box. 8221; He then went on to comment about how his state of mind, or inability to breathe, interfered with his ability to create something that was focused and coherent. So I am starting to ask myself these questions…Is there a breath in the box for me and my students? Am I aware of my breathing and my students’ breathing? Click to shar...

Praying with our eyes open. Holding together as a way of knowing. May 5, 2015. What if, instead, our main job as learners was to learn to hold things together? What if our main job as teachers was to help learners learn to hold things together? They are the ones who know the holding together secrets – relationship, story, sensory experience, poetry, ritual, symbol (which means to throw together), metaphor and all of the arts. And then there is stillness which also seems to naturally lead to a d...I don&#...

Praying with our eyes open. February 11, 2015. We don’t yet know who any of us will become. Is it possible that our imagination can lead us to the truth of our lives? Yes, it can! So what are we to do? We must choose to listen to that voice, and every choice will open us a little more to discover the new life hidden in the moment, waiting eagerly to be born. Nouwen, 1999, p. 84). Nouwen, H.J.M. (1999) in Greer, W.G. (ed.) (2014). The only necessary thing: Living a prayerful life. September 17, 2014.

Praying with our eyes open. Remember what it’s like to be a learner. May 2, 2016. It is the end of semester and I am thinking about comments from students made to me in the past couple of weeks, comments frequently made at the end of a semester. 8220;I didn’t know how all of this was going to come together, but now it all fits and every piece was necessary.”. 8220;I understand why was important now.”. As I think ahead to a new semester and new classes, I am reminding myself…. Remember to ‘foreshado...

Who Wants To Be A Registrar? What the heck is a Registrar, anyways? Book Reviews: Leading Change and Good to Great. In a recent post, I mentioned that I would occasionally write reviews of books that have influenced my life and work. I hope to share these with you to inspire you to pick up a book and read it and be changed. Two books that are helpful if they are combined are John Kotter, Leading Change. And Jim Collins, Good to Great. John Kotter Leading Change. Neither can I… (sarcasm alert! Use every v...

After all, we believe the saints (and especially the Apostles), walked in the ways of the Lord, therefore they have not worked iniquity (Psalm 118: 3), yet “no one lives and does not sin” according to the Divine Liturgy of the Church. Praying with our eyes open. September 9, 2016. This post is not a critique or analysis of the new plan. I appreciate that it will bring new energy and like most new initiatives, a correcting of imbalance. It may also create some new imbalances that will then need to be corrected in the future. Good teachers have always known that learning to read requires immersion in powerful literature experiences and explicit contextualized understanding of how language works. How is it that they have known this?

When you educate a woman, you educate the world. March 28, 2008. So, if that is true, why are economists and financial experts ignoring, or not aware of a real, honest to goodness, possible ‘cure’ for our economic woes? Simply educate more women. Educate women in all skills – financial, academic, home, and work. I know, most of us have had the opportunity to obtain at least a modest education. But do we really realize it’s value, not just to us and our families, but to our nation? What do you think?
