Christmas comes a little early - Reflections from under the Derby
http://docstymie.livejournal.com/287340.html
Reflections from under the Derby. Youre not thinking about this stuff. Christmas comes a little early. December 21st, 2010. Do They Know It's Christmas - Band Aid. A little over a year ago, I had an idea. Good luck with that! I did not give up. I talked to anyone who would listen around here. "Good idea! I continued to email executives. "Good idea! Month after month, I got "good idea! And a name of someone who would be "interested" in "helping.". I did not give up. From there, we talked about the logisti...

Need ideas for Short Stories/Novels for special ed ELA and Middle School and good writing prompts - Special Education Teachers
http://teaching-sp-ed.livejournal.com/194424.html
Need ideas for Short Stories/Novels for special ed ELA and Middle School and good writing prompts. I am up far too early! Today is the first official day back. And the others are lower readers and scattered. I have a feeling my class will be very tailored around this student. Previous year, I have taught Holes in ELA and loved it. I think I need a more mature book. So what would have you them read? Also - any good sources for writing prompts? Just for others - ideas I have:. Lots of quick writes. I'm a r...

(I might have teared up a little, too. Collectively, the 700 of you are a serious inspiration! So…let’s get on with Day Two, shall we? On Tuesdays and Thursdays during Teachers Write! Dear Daphne: June 2009
http://daphnecollins.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 7, 2009. As you grow up in whatever homes our family inhabits, you will no doubt encounter the stacks upon stacks of books that your mother and I have collected over the years. The collection has grown year by year since before you were born, and will doubtless continue long after you have children of your own to read with. Frequently our book purchases outstrip our purchasing of bookshelves and the collection runs two rows deep. Dont stop now . . . keep reading. Links to this post.

Dear Daphne: May 2011
http://daphnecollins.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 3, 2011. Nine Years, Seven Months and Twenty Days. A history teacher once told me to ask my parents what they were doing when they heard that JFK had been shot. Both of them remembered every detail. So will I, if one day you ask me what I was doing the morning of September 11, 2001. I was sitting in my cube when my friend Lisa stuck her head over the wall. “Howard Stern just said that someone crashed a plane into the World Trade Center.”. Dont stop now . . . keep reading. Dear Daphne: Be Yourself. Trite, But True.
http://daphnecollins.blogspot.com/2009/06/be-yourself-trite-but-true.html
Monday, June 1, 2009. Be Yourself. Trite, But True. Surround yourself with people who think you're great, and who think they're great, too. People who don't like themselves will usually try to make you dislike yourself. You don't have time for people like that. And speaking of things that kick ass, I'll just leave this here for you:. I'm so proud to be your mother, and I think you're the greatest kid on the planet. June 2, 2009 at 8:36 AM. Daphne, your mom knows what she is talking about. Ashley, reading...

Dear Daphne: We Cry.
http://daphnecollins.blogspot.com/2012/03/we-cry_15.html
Thursday, March 15, 2012. A week or so before Dad and I left for our trip to Steamboat Springs, you climbed up next to me on the couch and asked a question I didn’t know how to answer. What do we do when we die? I was flummoxed. Do you even know what “die” means? More importantly, how do I answer a question I still struggle with myself? You’re two. Ask if you can have a popsicle. So, I said what I imagine godless heathens everywhere say. 8220;What do you think happens? 8220;We cry.”. Anxiety. Borrowe...
