Notes from the Domestic Front: The Laundry. July 11th, 2014. How will you end the pile’s vicious reign? You name the pile. Hannibal. Norman Bates. Colonel Kurtz. Too controversial. You name the pile Darth Vader. Like science fiction. Now you choose a more worthy opponent. You give the pile your fourth grade teacher’s name. Your teacher who equally terrified you. How will you dismantle it, it and its empire? You look at the pile. It’s dark. You call softly, Mother. You shall call me Master!

A Publishing Workshop for Adults. July 2nd, 2014. There is no place I love more than our local library (fine, the German Bakery, but still! Director Lisa Youngblood is just so full of enthusiasm and love for the library patrons, and her team is so kind and dedicated, it’s always an amazing experience–both working with them and taking part in their programs with my own little peanuts. Has some great recommendations in The Book. Ah, the piles! And who their agent is (or first was) can be a good way to star...

I was born and raised in Geneva, Switzerland, where I grew up speaking both French and English. My love for words was kindled during my childhood. Classics by the likes of Beatrix Potter, A.A. Milne, C.S. Lewis, Lewis Carroll, and Robert Louis Stevenson filled our shelves. French poets Victor Hugo, Charles Baudelaire, and Alphonse de Lamartine were also regulars and I developed an appreciation for rhyme, meter, and sounds (and, consequently, for poetry as a genre). I moved to New York in 2004. I cannot c...

April 5th, 2015. The Harker Heights Library was kind enough to invite me to their local author fair today, so. Got a little face time with some library-goers. Spent a while talking to some great folks and their path to publication (everyone has a story–or, should I say, a saga! As well as the ins and outs of working on a novel (or works of such length! Creative times are keeping me busy, but I don’t doubt I’ll be joining you all again in the submission grind once the juice runs out. November 22nd, 2013.

In Memoriam – Spot’s Dad. June 27th, 2014. I was so sad to hear about the passing of legendary children’s book author and illustrator Eric Hill back on June 6. His books left such a deep impression on my childhood, and are doing the same today for my own little peanuts. Hill’s first book, Where’s Spot? Shows Spot’s mother Sally looking for her little pup all around the house. But everywhere she looks, she finds wild animals instead. You lift the flap, and boom! NPR calls Where’s Spot? In a 2007 interview...
