Classics and Beyond: September 2014
http://classicsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 7, 2014. The Reader by Bernhard Schlink. This is going to be one of the most difficult reviews Ive had to write in quite a while. I had a lot of mixed feelings about The Reader. A summary, as spoiler-free as possible:. To learn more about the characters. The only reason I pushed on was that my mom gave me this book, so I knew there had to be more to it than first met the eye. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Reader by Bernhard Schlink. Classics and Beyond: Is it our duty to finish books?
http://classicsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2014/11/is-it-our-duty-to-finish-books.html
Friday, November 14, 2014. Is it our duty to finish books? Have you seen the article going around these days. About how it's so important to finish books? What do you think of it? I had mixed feelings about it. Obviously I don't finish every book I start. But I think it's a bad idea, at least for me, to lock myself into a finish-every-single-book rule, for a few reasons:. If you're reading an author who's widely respected as an important/classic author, then it's a good idea not to discount their work.

Classics and Beyond: Giant by Edna Ferber
http://classicsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2014/10/giant-by-edna-ferber.html
Friday, October 31, 2014. Giant by Edna Ferber. After reading the first chapter or two of Giant. I was sure I wouldn't like the rest of it. I couldn't tell exactly what was going on, there were too many characters and I didn't know which ones were important, and I was bored. I didn't think it would, or could, get any better. But then- miracle of miracles- it did. As a basic synopsis, Giant. Read it for an English class, but it doesn't seem to get much critical notice.). More than I thought I would, it st...

Classics and Beyond: March 2015
http://classicsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 25, 2015. So I haven't posted here in nearly four months, as you may have noticed. Part of the reason for that, of course, is that I had a baby. She's completely darling and perfect and wonderful. But if I'm being honest, she's a very easy baby, so I've actually had more time than I bargained for to read and write. I've been doing quite a bit of reading for fun- a lot more than I did when I was in school. I still care about books and literature, but it's not much of a focus in my life ri...

Classics and Beyond: The Year of Magical Thinking and Blue Nights by Joan Didion
http://classicsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2014/11/the-year-of-magical-thinking-and-blue.html
Thursday, November 20, 2014. The Year of Magical Thinking and Blue Nights by Joan Didion. Oh, Joan Didion. I just love you. Is there really more I can say? Okay, okay. I'll say more. But only because you really twisted my arm. I'm grouping these two memoirs together because they're similar in style and content and I read them at almost the same time, so I don't have much different to say about each one. The Year of Magical Thinking. I did find Blue Nights. And just her life- without apology. But Joan Did...

http://classicsandbeyond.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, December 7, 2014. Reading Plans for 2015. Well, the year is winding down, and Im starting to think about next years reading, as many of you are. The past couple years, at the end of the year Ive usually said things like, Well, I cant guarantee how much reading Ill get done next year, since Ill be in school. Ive always wanted. To participate in all the many awesome challenges I see, but I try to keep it to a minimum, since I know most of my reading will be for school. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
