Livin' the vida Doha. 2004-May 2006: Japan postings. May 2006-August 2011: Canada postings. Saturday, September 28, 2013. This month, we saw for sure that we have yet another fish in our family. She gets so excited even just as we approach the water, kicking her legs and squealing. Look at that serious little face, watching momma. Yes, sometimes it's more fun to just EAT the floaty. Yes, we've got a happy one. Ohhhh darling Epp face. Sunday, September 15, 2013. Reports on our Facebook feeds, warning of r...

Livin' the vida Doha. 2004-May 2006: Japan postings. May 2006-August 2011: Canada postings. Thursday, December 23, 2010. From Our Home to Yours. It's our "Christmas Eve" tonight. With two days of family celebrations coming, starting tomorrow, we're definitely getting into the swing of things. The gifts are wrapped, under the tree, the Christmas tunes are playing, the lights are lit, and final food preparations are taking place, together with some spontaneous dancing and stolen kisses. I don't want to!

It's just about Halloween, and we're getting ready to do our Qatar-tradition of crashing one of my college's compounds (full of Canadian families) for some good old-fashioned trick or treating. I love that her witches are mathematically-inclined). This one comes with a story. a story that deserves interpretation. "Once there was ...Ahhhh...

And then your first turns seven, and there's been enough years now that you can look back on them and see the growth and the changes, and you realize, "Hey, maybe we're doing okay.". Your knock-knock jokes are a work in progress, but I will never forget the first time you truly "got" a joke. Do you remember? But this year we've also seen a new...

Mrs. Driftwood: March 2009
http://mrsdriftwood.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
A few little stories from the world of occasional teaching. Kids are so amazing. Wednesday, March 18, 2009. Everywhere I look, kids continue to amaze me. I read this book called "Amazing Grace" written by Jonathan Kozol about kids living in a place called Mott Haven, a ghetto in New York City. It is a sobering, depressing read, but necessarily so. This is what a 12 year old (grade 6 or 7) wrote in response to the question, what is heaven like? God will be there. He'll be happy that we arrived. He is just...

on my way: Conley Christmas Letter 2010
http://onmywayblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/conley-christmas-letter-2010.html
Documenting this part of the journey. Tuesday, December 14, 2010. Conley Christmas Letter 2010. In the first months of Caleb’s life, we were blessed to receive visitors from down the street and from half way around the world. These visits helped us in the early days of parenthood by providing much needed support in the way of meals, gifts, encouragement, and (best of all) chances to sleep; and also by reminding us that we are not alone in this journey. Darren, Larissa and Caleb Conley. 27 Years of Wisdom...
on my way: The return to work
http://onmywayblog.blogspot.com/2010/10/return-to-work.html
Documenting this part of the journey. Sunday, October 17, 2010. The return to work. Today was a significant day in my life. After 7 1/2 months of full-time mothering, I went back to work. I wasn't really worried about Caleb - I knew he was in good hands with my sister. I was worried about me. I have found myself missing Caleb while he napped. For an hour. In the same room as me! And now I'm going to leave him for 6 hours a day. Five days a week. Along with his seconds. I want it all. I can't have it all.

I Like My Brown Skin. Click here for a preview of the book! I Like My Brown Skin Because. Was written after a four-year-old asked his grandmother (the author, Julia Davis) if her brown skin ever made her sad. This must-read book is an answer to his questions. Tuesday, August 30, 2011. A two lane highway is exactly what it sounds like. It is a road that has only two lanes of traffic. These are what are often considered “back roads”, surface streets, and country roads. Any road that has only two lanes of travel (one in each direction) is a two lane road. So how is the law enforced? Friday, August 12, 2011. How Will a DUI Affect My License? The reality is there is no quick and fast answer to that question.
