As for Me and My House

Monday, January 31, 2011. Note: I can finally re-post this again. It was on for about an hour the day before mom and dad left Egypt, but I pulled it when I realized that even a hint of their plans to leave was confidential. Mom and Dad are safe in Houston. You can check out her blog. To learn more about what their evacuation was like and the days preceding it! And all this eager, hopeful anticipation got me thinking. Someone IS coming! Christ will be returning! Tuesday, December 21, 2010. I was part of a...

As for Me and My House: Everyday Miracle

http://www.ericandmeganjohnson.blogspot.com/2010/12/everyday-miracle.html

Tuesday, December 21, 2010. I was part of a meeting this week with some of the people involved in our Childrens' ministry. A Sunday School teacher shared about a boy who this week prayed for the first time. Another woman commented how everyone wants to be involved in a miracle. How she would have loved to be there to witness that boy's prayer. I have that boy in my class during second service and I would have loved to have been there too! Miracle of new life. For it was the. Ages and generations, but has...

Sam & Kim: January 2010

http://samandkimintulsa.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 18, 2010. One of the things I enjoy doing is serving at the Baby Wash Clinic. The Baby Wash Clinic is located in Giza, near the famous pyramids. It is an interesting ride from Maadi to Giza! When a new mother brings her baby to the Baby Wash Clinic, she has either heard about it from a friend or has been referred by the Dr. They bring their baby four times. We weigh the babies, wash them from head to toe, give them a physical examination and lots of love and attention! And third, Maadi be...

Sam & Kim: June 2011

http://samandkimintulsa.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 5, 2011. This IS the year of adventure, right? Back in December, Sam and I and friends, Clayton and Julie Williams, declared this would be the Year of Adventure. This certainly has been a WEEK of adventure for me! It began with a beautiful drive through the Arkansas hills to Fiddler’s Bend near Kansas, OK to see my friend, Connie Ellison and culminated with the beautiful wedding of my niece! Fiddler's Bend on the Illinois River. Nothing could prepare us for what ensued! The butterflies were ...

Sam & Kim: December 2009

http://samandkimintulsa.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, December 22, 2009. At Maadi Community Church we worship under a big tent with fans in the summer-time and now in the winter we have quilted “tent makers cloth” drapes attached to the sides to keep us warm. (yes, it does get cold here). These cloths are very colorful-reds, greens and blues in distinctive arabian designs! 8221; and I lost my focus. My mind wanders to babies. While Megan was pregnant with her second child, Sheyenne discovered she also is pregnant! Sheyenne is due April 16th! We don...

Monday, March 19, 2012. International Festival, Cairo American School. Sam and I had a fun day Saturday. We discovered that the hydrangeas have hit town and as our outdoor space is mostly shade, I couldn't wait to buy a couple to brighten the tropicals already in our garden. Right now the flowers are b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l! The weather is still cool so everything is looking at its peak! Some of the flower shops along the railroad track would give Under the Sun in Tulsa, Ok a run for their money! Beautiful Ara...

Sam & Kim: June 2010

http://samandkimintulsa.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 1, 2010. Sheyenne and Sean left yesterday after 10 days of non-stop sightseeing, shopping, eating great Egyptian food, and playing games in the evening. I knew coming home to an empty house would be difficult. It was. So, to bust the blues I decided to plan a few things this week. Today is Tuesday.hair cut day! So, I called a place where my friend, Julie, got a great haircut.and they speak English. It was all so strange. I did not think I looked THAT bad when I went in, and I don't thin...

Sam & Kim: February 2010

http://samandkimintulsa.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 23, 2010. Tuesday, Februrary 9th was a busy day; I attended the ladies Bible study that morning. We have been studying Esther with Beth Moore, and she had really challenged me two weeks prior with her comments about overcoming fear. This lesson was where Esther prepared not one banquet, but two for her king-husband and Haman. Haman was planning the demise of Esther's uncle, Mordecai, unbeknownst to all of them! Wasn't that a wonderful lesson? What did you get out of it? When Sam called ...

Tuesday, January 24, 2012. My good intentions of blogging at least once a week have been just that: good intentions. I have no excuses. I will continue to strive to do better. This is citrus season in Cairo. We are getting loads of fresh oranges and grapefruits. This is one of my favorite sights! A donkey cart covered with grasses, loaded with oranges, many with the stems still attached! They smell so good! I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Egypt grows blood oranges! Wednesday, July 7, 2010. Update to the Trip to Holland. Remember we went to Holland and saw the beautiful Kuykenhoff Bulb Gardens? Here is a photo of the Giant Amaryllis I brought home! Some Things Get Lost in Translation! I hope you get a chuckle out of this one! We live in a multi-cultural city, where lots of things get translated from arabic to English. Sometimes this makes our lives easier.and sometimes it just makes us wonder. Summertime in Cairo is not-so-bad! For those of you who are flower lovers...

http://samandkimintulsa.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 22, 2010. Summer Fun: Survivor on Funniest Home Videos. We enjoyed a great breakfast of cherry and strawberry waffles (two different orders! Eggs and bacon and coffee. We were poppin' full when we left and eager to get home to our next project. That would be sewing for Sheyenne and me and playing b-ball for Sean. Sheyenne's response, "you've got to be kidding me", and Sean's, "look at all those kids in our yard! I have never seen them before! Got me to laughing! The sight was hysterical!

Eric and Megan

We had a fantastic summer! Here are some of the highlights:. We went to Lake Powell and had fun swimming, boating, tubing, and eating good food. It was a great vacation! After Lake Powell we went camping with the Sperry side of my family. We ate tinfoil dinners, s'mores, I went rappelling, Eric went paint-balling with the guys, we played games, we sat around a campfire, and on the last day we booked it out of camp in the middle of a 5 minute hailstorm. That was weird. It really was a great summer! Sorry ...

The Martindales

Thursday, September 22, 2011. Introducing William Eric Martindale. Well it hasn't been quite a year since I last posted. But since some people don't check Facebook or other people (like me) enjoy reading about other people's birth stories I figured I would post it here. I am also recording our newest addition's birth story so I will have it for his scrapbook. Before the going to the hospital. They said no make-up, how I wish I didn't follow that rule. The first time we got to hold him. Can you say Albino?
