Agape: August 2014

Saturday, August 2, 2014. The Nature of Man. The following is a chapter taken from the book "O Death where is thy Sting? One of the popular critiques of Christianity relates to its teaching about the fall of man. In this teaching the opponents of Christianity see a pessimistic attitude and the demeaning of human dignity. Perhaps in light of what I was discussing previously this accusation begins to lose its demagogic sting. What is the meaning of this story, which greets us like a child’s fable? We began...

Now I will mention a few points on what I AM NOT! Lastly, why does it matter? End of life Care. Saturday, June 20, 2015.

Friday, August 28, 2015. I love therefore I am. Wednesday, August 12, 2015. The paradox of weakness and strength can be difficult to understand. One can say, "How can I find beauty and goodness when I am lying in a hospital bed and I do not have control over the condition that has taken a hold of me? Weakness carries within it a secret power. The cry and the trust that flow from weakness can open up hearts. The one who is weaker can call forth powers of love in the one who is stronger. Do tho...One aspec...

Friday, September 26, 2014. The Live Giving Cross. Today the church celebrates the feast of the living giving cross! The following is a sermon by Father Matthew the Poor said on the feast of the cross in 1976. It is taken from the book, "Words for our Time". Hail to the Cross! Hail to the life-giving Wood! A strong objection arises in the mind of each of us at times which asks, "How can we say, 'Hail to the Cross'? Do we worship idols, as the Protestants say of us? This manner of materialistic thinking a...

Sunday, February 22, 2015. In the Orthodox Church, the last Sunday before Great Lent – the day on which, at Vespers, Lent is liturgically announced and inaugurated – is called Forgiveness Sunday. On the morning of that Sunday, at the Divine Liturgy, we hear the words of Christ:. If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." (Mark 6:14-15). What is the meaning of this rite?

Agape: The Humanistic Approach to Chaplaincy
http://livingorthodoxtheology.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-humanistic-approach-to-chaplaincy.html
Saturday, August 1, 2015. The Humanistic Approach to Chaplaincy. One aspect that has really caught my attention during the last six months is a concept that has been popularized by Henri Nouwen. The wounded healer is the affirmation that all humans are wounded yet we find healing through the same wounds that make us vulnerable with each other. Henri Nouwen sums up the role of the priest, pastor, imam, rabbi, pendant etc. beautifully connecting the role to the wounded healer:. Glory to God for All Things.

My Ukrainian Epoch
My Ukrainian story in narrative form- for you literary types. Wednesday, February 2, 2011. Once in the cabin, we got to figure out how to get all of our stuff and ourselves into a 6ish x 7ish foot cabin. Thankfully, the bottom bunk mattresses raised up and we could put a couple of bags under there. Amiee and I were pretty much stuck, though, once we got up on the top bunks- all floor space disappeared. Mom was quite a bit ahead of us when she disappeared. One second she was standing, the next she was...

ThisihT | A little bit of coffee with your morning meds.
A little bit of coffee with your morning meds. An eventful drive to Starbucks. Sometimes I have trouble sleeping. I’ll stay up reading obscure articles on my iPhone or making mental lists of my “to-dos” and “faults” or sometimes I’ll just sit and stare at the wall, thinking about all the other things I ought to be doing instead. Inevitably, those drawn-out nights turn to day with an early morning Starbucks run. The location just down the street from me is – fun fact! Time to Do Something Good. It turns o...
