Ring Road on a Whim | Reykjavik Report
https://dgaley.wordpress.com/2010/02/09/ring-road-on-a-whim
Ring Road on a Whim. February 9, 2010. There I was, the last bus stop out of town, armed with a towel and the naive determination to make it to the other side of a subarctic island in January. No idea what to expect, Sarah (new to Iceland, fresh out of Arkansas) and I had arranged a couple couchsurfing hosts a few days before and decided to give hitch-hiking a try. Word to the wise: Thumbs much more effective than a towel. It rained and poured. But we pressed on! Finally, we made it to. Fn has 4 Bj.

On eruption | Reykjavik Report
https://dgaley.wordpress.com/2010/04/25/on-eruption
April 25, 2010. It’s been a little while since I last posted; in the meantime, I’ve taken a trip to London, Turkey, and Greece, hiked within 5 feet of a lava river, bathed in natural hot springs at the top of a mountain, interviewed local experts in urban development, and experienced Reykjavik’s well-developed culture, from choir performances to poetry readings. England asked for cash, but, as there is no C in the Icelandic language, what they got instead was ash, or so the joke has been formulated here.

Goodbye McDonald’s, preconceptions | Reykjavik Report
https://dgaley.wordpress.com/2009/11/13/goodbye-mcdonalds-preconceptions
Goodbye McDonald’s, preconceptions. November 13, 2009. All the McDonald’s are gone. Hooray! If you’d told me a few months ago that McDonald’s would come to exist in Iceland no longer, I would’ve guessed that this enlightened, healthy democracy had decided to evict the much-berated establishment. In a city of 1000, this is what I found. Not too shabby. The town itself is pretty beautiful:. Not to mention the country’s economic “success.” The banking industry, what little remains, has...The nation has a ri...

Fortuitous Encounters | Reykjavik Report
https://dgaley.wordpress.com/2010/01/25/fortuitous-encounters
January 25, 2010. Last December, I traveled with to Oslo, Norway and Copenhagen, Denmark with two friends I met in Iceland, Jenna and Jillz, from New Jersey and New Zealand respectively. The girls sleeping in. We thought the idea was cool, but so was our living arrangement in the absence of heating. No matter, Rosy was nice enough to provide blankets and even a sleeping bag for my unprepared self. The location was beautiful, at the beginning of the islands that extent out from Oslo’s fjord-side locale.
