Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Sailing to the Spanish Virgin Islands - Feb. 1-12, 2015. We had been talking about sailing to the Spanish Virgin Islands for a long time. So when Phil and Laura mentioned the subject to us while sailing Nantucket last July, we all agreed to that it was indeed a great IDEA! We met up at the American Yacht Harbor at Redhook on the east end of St. Thomas, USVI and of course, we immediately set about to properly provision for the voyage. The next day found us sailing and anchori...

Steve Croan's Blog: Sailing the Dodecanese Islands- October 11-18, 2014

Saturday, December 20, 2014. Sailing the Dodecanese Islands- October 11-18, 2014. The Islands of Greece sit in 2 very different seas; the Aegean and the Ionian, and are grouped into families of islands that share similar looks, culture, history and climate. The Dodecanese can be a challenge to sail. The dry northwesterly meltimi winds blows from the NW-W at Force 4-6 from June thru September making it very difficult to sail in a northward direction. Tilos is known for seductive beaches with no crowds.

Tuesday, June 16, 2015. Cruising to Alaska - Outside Vancouver Pacific Passage - May 18-June 11, 2015. While sailing the San Juan Islands in August, we met Brian Pemberton while wandering about the piers in Bellingham. Why not try an outside passage going around the Pacific side of Vancouver Island and then up inside to Alaska? Departing from Bellingham, we headed to Victoria on Vancouver Island. We will be logging over 935 miles in about 25 days! A stunningly beautiful waterfall tumbles from Lessom Cree...

Wednesday, August 6, 2014. Sailing the New England area-Buzzard’s Bay, Vineyard Sound, and Nantucket Sound, July 20-27, 2014. When sailing the Gulf of Mexico, much of the Caribbean, and even the Mediterranean Sea, the tides and currents are not too much of a concern. But in New England, let the Navigator beware! We met up with Captain Phil Levine and his terrific 1. Mate Laura Schaub aboard their 48’ double head sail sloop in Fiddler’s Cove Marina, just outside of Falmouth, Massachusetts. Where’s i...

Steve Croan's Blog: Sailing the Great Abaco Islands, June 4-10, 2014

Saturday, June 21, 2014. Sailing the Great Abaco Islands, June 4-10, 2014. Would you believe that we have never sailed in the Bahamas? So we got a Beneteau 37 at Marsh Harbour and also a "tide chart" because you need a "tide chart" here in this beautiful water or you're subject to run aground! You expect the traditional "island color" and style here at an anchorage at Great Guana Cay. Anchored a day hook at Fowl Cay Reef Preserve for some snorkeling and cold drinks. Steve Croan's Blog: Sailing the San Juan Islands-August 15-22, 2014

Tuesday, September 2, 2014. Sailing the San Juan Islands-August 15-22, 2014. While sailing the Cyclades Islands in Greece in September of last year, we first met Dan and Donna from Bellingham, Washington. It was there that they made the mistake of giving us an invitation to sail the San Juan's with them along side and sharing the benefit of their many years of local knowledge. Steve and Melissa at sail in calm winds on Cecilia, a Tartan 34 chartered from San Juan Charters. We also tried our luck trying t...
