And the carrot came up...: Programming made Easy.
http://andthecarrotcameup.blogspot.com/2015/07/programming-made-easy.html
And the carrot came up. Monday, 27 July 2015. It all started with the book, Road Builders by B.G. Hennessy. The toddlers were interested in construction in the fall and they were still interested in the spring. The interest was not always intense but it was consistent. One day I took a few things away and added in some different things. Interest renewed and quickened. I taped three or four to each table. I put our a felt marker on each. I borrowed some hollow blocks from the 3-5's. One day I took four to...

And the carrot came up...: October 2014
http://andthecarrotcameup.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
And the carrot came up. Tuesday, 28 October 2014. Chestnuts are for throwing. Not. On the University campus where our daycare center is located, there are several chestnut trees. The last time I was out for a walk with the littles, we discovered another tree. The chestnuts from this tree are huge! I couldn't resist filling my pockets and bringing them back to our daycare room. I put some out on the light table along with our leaf collection and some pinecones. Of course he did! He was trying to see if pu...

http://andthecarrotcameup.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
And the carrot came up. Saturday, 20 December 2014. Here are a few highlights from our busy week in the toddler room. We have set up a sensory room in our bathroom! I was inspired by THIS BLOG POST. And decided to bring out our Overhead Projector too! I gave them the felt pieces of Brown Bear, Brown Bear to use if they wanted. They have loved this story all fall and it was fun to continue their learning in a new way. So excited to find the projected image! We played a lot of hockey! Played on the climber.

And the carrot came up...: May 2015
http://andthecarrotcameup.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
And the carrot came up. Wednesday, 27 May 2015. Make way for the Dinosaurs. As the summer months draw closer, I decided that we needed to spring clean our toddler daycare room. I wanted to move the cubby units to sweep under them and put winter things away. Hopefully I didn't jinx anything because we have been having some fierce thunder storms lately and some cooler days. Have you ever noticed that when you attempt to do one thing it almost always seems to connect to something else? This is an upturned s...

And the carrot came up...: April 2015
http://andthecarrotcameup.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
And the carrot came up. Tuesday, 28 April 2015. Have you played outside today? Mine was the first group out into the yard this afternoon. We decided to check on our bird feeder to see if it needed filling. Sure enough it was empty. I got my little helpers to fill it back up again. I hold the container and they reach in and carefully fill the scoop. They feel so proud to do this on their own. All four of them had a turn. The seeds don't last long so we have to do this task often. Up in the trees? I love t...

And the carrot came up...: It Takes Teamwork.
http://andthecarrotcameup.blogspot.com/2015/07/it-takes-teamwork.html
And the carrot came up. Tuesday, 28 July 2015. It was her idea, she said. And then he made it happen. That's team work at it's best. In the world of Early Childhood Education, in our one little toddler room, we rely on team work. I set things up and put things away, she cleans the fish tank, she re-stocks the cupboards with kleenex. We all have jobs and tasks that we are naturally drawn to. Soon the room is running smoothly because everyone is pitching in. We are so grateful for our volunteers! I have wo...

And the carrot came up...: Loose Parts - What?
http://andthecarrotcameup.blogspot.com/2015/08/loose-parts-what.html
And the carrot came up. Wednesday, 5 August 2015. Loose Parts - What? PLAY IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF RESEARCH. It is possible to buy a lot of loose parts for $60. I already do this regularly and love it! It's one of my favorite things to do in fact. So I agreed with her, of course, and hope that all who participate have as much fun. What are "loose parts" anyway and what "loose parts" would you buy if given the opportunity? As we will be shopping for items for infants and toddlers thinking about safety issu...

And the carrot came up...: July 2015
http://andthecarrotcameup.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
And the carrot came up. Tuesday, 28 July 2015. Felt Scraps, Felt Art. My family went for a quick trip to visit. Great Grandma and Great Auntie at the Ocean recently. We enjoyed some time at the ocean of course and ate fish and chips by the waters edge. It tastes better that way it seems. Part of visiting always includes a bit of confusion as things get figured out. Where are we going? Who wants to go? Who's riding in what car? What time are we leaving? Here is some of her art. Mommy and Nanny had fun too.
