Eye of Ochruros - 2013

Eye of Ochruros - 2013. Friday, 14 June 2013. Cape May - Part 5. Monday morning. Back in the Belleplain once again. Another bash at Prothonotary Warbler. As the Beanery had failed to produce so far, perhaps we'd have more joy around Sunset Bridge and Beaver Dam? By now the songs of White-eyed and Red-eyed Vireos had become familiar to our ears. According to Sibley Red-eyed Vireo says ‘Here I am, in the tree.’. White-breasted Nuthatch - Photo courtesy Richard Powell. There was a big fall of hirundines inc...

Eye of Ochruros - 2013: January 2013

http://eyeofochruros.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Eye of Ochruros - 2013. Monday, 21 January 2013. 12th and 13th Jan 2013. At Stubbers Green early doors, an adult Caspian Gull didn't disappoint, despite the gathering of gulls being very small on this occasion. A classic specimen of Caspo, no question. No Iceland though and we didn't hang around. Also here, 5 Great Black-backed Gulls and 1 Common Gull, 5 Goosander and the omnipresent flyover Lesser Redpoll. Things were looking up when a drake Scaup dropped in. Presumably Tufty x Scaup hybrid? Next the fi...

Eye of Ochruros - 2013. Friday, 20 April 2012. Thursday 19th April 2012. With the mini-influx of Black-winged Stilts into our country at the end of last week (with single birds in Dorset, Lincs and Rutland), it was hopeful that one might rock up in the region at some stage. My money was on Staffs last weekend, particularly after the Rutland bird took flight last Friday evening, but alas it went the wrong way and ended up in Lincolnshire instead. Mega 2 BW Stilts Clayhangar.'. Thankfully the journey from ...

Eye of Ochruros - 2013. Sunday, 2 June 2013. Cape May - Part 4. The Osprey boat trip came highly recommended by Richard as a great way to explore the saltmarshes and get closer to birds such as Ospreys, herons and waders. The 3 hour sailing began at 10.00am, so we killed some time at Higbee first, with the main highlight being a fine male American Redstart. Most notable of the waders was a big passage of Hudsonian Whimbrel. We counted around 200 birds, although there were probably many more. Othe...On th...

Eye of Ochruros - 2013. Wednesday, 16 May 2012. Hmma fair possibility of catching up with rarities such as Purple Heron and Pallid Harrier and a very good chance of meeting with a Red-rumped Swallow? Don’t mind if I do! Sadly the Purple Heron did not show and there were no subsequent reports, clearly it had moved on. It was interesting to learn however, that the heron had already been present several days prior to being reported. Highlights from the gate were a Whinchat, 3 Yellow Wagtail and a couple of ...

Alrewas Birder: August

http://alrewasbirder.blogspot.com/2014/09/august.html

A simple blog, not very interesting but ok I suppose (just like the writer then). Friday, 12 September 2014. The majority of August was spent around the local lakes with 5 Black Terns. At WH being a real bonus. Not a lot special was around as it was the time of year when birding goes a tad quiet just before the migration. I had a great day at Birdfair spending loads of money and then at the end of the month a fishing trip to Gloucester was an ideal opportunity to catch up on a nice Marsh Sandpiper.
