Your Life: A Great Story. I just read a great book – a book that I have heard about but never picked up until friends in Australia gave it to me while I was there –. A Million Miles in a Thousand Years. They told me that it was because of this book that they were getting married and going to England for a year of training right after their honeymoon. Wow, that’s a big effect from a book. Once I got back home, Leigh and I wrestled over the book for 3 days to try to finish it first. The subtitle is,. You c...

Wearing Out Our Soul by Attrition. I open my personal journal to you, my expeditions and explanations with God, this morning. I was reading an excerpt from C. S. Lewis’,. In this selection, senior devil Screwtape is instructing junior devil Wormwood how to defeat followers of God. As I read this I was stunned by the accuracy and pervasiveness of these assaults on a man or woman. I know this to be true by my own experience as well as conversations with others. It is so hard for these creatures to persevere.

Letting the “Good” Get the Best of You |

Letting the Good Get the Best of You. From what I could see, my friend suffered from heart fatigue. He had put major mileage on his life without checking his heart fluid level. The engine of his life, his heart, was about to seize. As Proverbs 4:23 says, Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. (NLT). This was one of those conversations where I realized that I was talking to two people one on each end of the phone. My friend’s story sounded uncomfortably familiar. If yo...

I was at Panera waiting for a friend when I overheard a three-way conversation at the next table. I didn’t mean to listen, but they were loud and seemed unaware of others. Then the first told of a documentary he had seen on tribal peoples in the South American Rain Forests, people who had little to no contact with the rest of the world. They co...

A year or so ago, a Christian friend described how he was beginning to bring the gospel his softball team. He had joined the local league that spring partly for the fun of the game and partly to get outside his Christian bubble and to meet non-believers. He asked them if they would stop, at least while he was with them.

Beliefs of the Heart. Uncovering and Discovering the True Beliefs of the Heart. What’s The Problem With Christian Leadership? A few years ago a good friend of mine listened to a set of my sermons. He offered me constructive criticism. He liked what I said, but he had one bit of advice:. Don’t use so many personal stories about your own weaknesses. He believed that the best spiritual. I disagree. I think sharing personal weaknesses strengthens. And the sermon was. Problems but didn’t address. Instead of a...

Beliefs of the Heart. Uncovering and Discovering the True Beliefs of the Heart. What My Train Set Taught Me About Transcendence. My kids and I used to have a small Lionel train set in a corner of my tool room. Ten years ago we dismantled the small set with dreams of a bigger and better train set in a newly created basement room called the Train Room. Our quest for perfection derailed us. We dreamt of glory, and for ten years we did nothing. We ran out of steam. The Train Room. What was our problem? The i...

I‘ve met bosses who are proud of (happy with) their leadership skills; and I’ve met employees who are proud of (satisfied with) their teamwork talent. We also ...
