SocialWrkr24/7 : Eyes Opened Wider: Blog Series

http://eyesopenedwider.blogspot.com/p/blog-series.html

Subscribe in a reader. There is so much about Child Welfare that is tricky, full of red tape and hard for the "layperson" to understand. I hope these posts not only help you understand the system, but how to navigate its difficult aspects and work for the best intests of the children and families involved in it. I'm a firm believer in open adoption and believe it is very beneficial to the child - especially in the case of children adopted out of the foster care system. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

SocialWrkr24/7 : Eyes Opened Wider: Birth Parent Bias?

http://eyesopenedwider.blogspot.com/2011/06/birth-parent-bias.html

Subscribe in a reader. Wednesday, June 15, 2011. Because caseworkers SHOULD have a bias towards returning children home. That is the POINT of the system. Commercials like this one:. I agree - "you don't have to be perfect to be a perfect parent" - so why don't people give biological parents the same benefit of the doubt? Why wouldn't we give them every oppurtunity to parent their child? Why wouldn't we pull out all the stops to give a child the chance to be parented by their biological parent? It seems a...

Eyes Open, Feet First

Eyes Open, Feet First. Moving is hard, yo. Packing up 6 years of life, 3 floors of apartment space, 2 nervous but snuggly kitties and a huge bucket full of sentimental memories is hard work. We've said good-bye to my family. My 7 year old niece wouldn't stop with the hugs and made us promise we'll skype. My 71 year old aunt can't hear too much about the details of our new beachside cottage without getting teary-eyed. Captured every single moment of joy, laughter and love throughout the day. Just look...
