Writer's floss: A Way to Become a Writer
http://writersfloss.blogspot.com/2013/04/a-way-to-become-writer.html
Thoughts on hanging around words (thank you, W.H. Auden). Friday, April 26, 2013. A Way to Become a Writer. If you want to be a writer, don't own your own house unless you are comfortably wealthy. And if you're comfortably wealthy, give your riches away because then you're better able to commit to being a writer- and along the way you'll be following Jesus. Location: Georgia, USA. November 7, 2013 at 9:00 AM. A little late, but I get it. Writing takes time (so no house) and space (no wealth to manage).

Memory Floss: Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine
http://memoryfloss.blogspot.com/2012/11/thy-dross-to-consume-and-thy-gold-to.html
One writer's effort to mine his memory and tell good stories. Friday, November 9, 2012. Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine. One of my favorite lines in the annals of church hymnody comes from a stanza of "How Firm a Foundation":. When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,. My grace, all-sufficient, shall be thy supply. The flames shall not hurt thee; I only design. Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine. What's this mean to me? Good writers (and editors), I think, are excellent at wor...

Memory Floss: War, Identity, and Reading Aboard the NYC Subway
http://memoryfloss.blogspot.com/2012/11/war-identity-and-reading-aboard-nyc.html
One writer's effort to mine his memory and tell good stories. Tuesday, November 20, 2012. War, Identity, and Reading Aboard the NYC Subway. As a young adult, I lived continuously subject to the possibility of military induction; in fact, I had avoided being drafted only by enrolling in college and receiving a student deferment. Deferment of my anxiety regarding life and war took a bit longer. And, in a lighter vein but decidedly militaristic, Mister Roberts. Only on much later reflection did I sense the ...

Writer's floss: January 2013
http://writersfloss.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Thoughts on hanging around words (thank you, W.H. Auden). Friday, January 11, 2013. For Christmas I received a small calendar of popular trivia. I cannot find anywhere in this 365-page publication (it shrinks in size as the days go by) documentation of any of the bits of trivia so I've been using Google search skills to find more information about these tiny factoids, urban legends, bits of folk wisdom, and down-right deceptions. The average person presses the snooze button on their (.
