Back to work – fatherhood254

https://fatherhood254.wordpress.com/2016/07/31/back-to-work

Celebrating the 'present' father . Courtesy: www.officeworks.com.au. Date: July 31, 2016. Going to work is a necessity for many. Few can say they are going to work because they enjoy what they do. If you are a parent going to work is mainly fueled by the need to provide for your children. If you ask most parents, they would want to sleep in once in a while and spend the day running around with their children and not be at the beck and call of the boss. As we rushed him to hospital, I ran many scenarios i...

Social Media and Early intervention saved my son – fatherhood254

https://fatherhood254.wordpress.com/2016/04/29/how-social-media-and-early-intervention-saved-my-sons-life

Celebrating the 'present' father . Social Media and Early intervention saved my son. Date: April 29, 2016. My son was 3 weeks old, when a routine check-up after birth revealed he did indeed have a tongue tie which a midwife had pointed out after birth and thus we needed to consult a pediatric surgeon to book a minor operation. After the surgeon visit, and booking of the operation, family members urged me to seek a second opinion due to his young age. You can imagine the conflicting emotions, running thro...

Celebrating the 'present' father . Date: May 19, 2016. As a first time parent one is always constantly receiving helpful tips from friends, relatives, midwives, doctors even strangers as to how and what to feed your little one. Breastfeeding to weaning…everyone has an opinion. Many of you reading this can remember or are going through the constant feeding battles with your children as you try to get them to not only eat healthy but eat enough, so they can grow to be big and strong. Weetabix or Cornflakes...

Keeping toddlers busy – fatherhood254

https://fatherhood254.wordpress.com/2016/03/29/keeping-toddlers-busy

Celebrating the 'present' father . Date: March 29, 2016. It is never easy babysitting or looking after a toddler as they are at an inquisitive, explorer mode with energy of Batman and Superman. Well one trick I found that works is taking them outside so they are one with nature. Now I am not one to stay outside for long. I rather prefer the comfort of the sofa indoors, but my 19 month old boy is teaching me new skills and making me appreciate the great outdoors. Case of the Baby Daddy. Also, the bathtub!

Inspire Kids – fatherhood254

https://fatherhood254.wordpress.com/2016/06/24/inspire-kids

Celebrating the 'present' father . Date: June 24, 2016. Nurturing the Mind, Body and Heart. Long time ago when people had children, you always had a relative or two around to help out with babysitting and chores and at no extra cost. With time as family dynamics changed, they had the option of hiring a nanny and or a full time house-help to help around the house and look after the children whilst mummy and daddy go to work. Inspire Kids Nursery School. I caught up with the director of Inspire Kids, Lucy ...

Conversations with my Soul. Monthly Archives: December 2016. What if you had a disability? In the next few posts I shall be sharing thoughts on disability. This is motivated by my interaction with not only persons with psychosocial disabilities but all other disabilities as well. It is crucial that persons with disabilities fully and effectively participate in society on an equal basis with others. And I feel that the awareness of this fact is really key.). Do you have a disability? I am not using disabi...

Conversations with my Soul. Monthly Archives: March 2016. On suicides and why we should be bothered. There is a particular time I sent a commentary on suicide to a local newspaper who said it was well written, but could I make it a little livelierthat it was depressing. I wondered, how well can I make suicide ‘appear’ happy? Can I crack a joke in there? IMPORTANT: Provide contact information for support services, to encourage people at risk to seek help at an earlier stage. Include details of further sou...

Conversations with my Soul. Newer posts →. If the media cannot kill the stigma towards mental health, who shall? My attention is drawn to The Daily Nation’s editorial cartoon (30. August 2013). The cartoon implies that Parliament actually should be a mental institution and since funds were to be increased to mental institutions, it (Parliament) should also be considered! Mental health problems have now become a source of ridicule and shame. Remember how the media presented the Mathari Hospital Story?

Conversations with my Soul. I have a mental illnessI am not a criminal. What if you had a disability? Let’s ensure dignity and respect for persons with disabilities. Our own Constitution states that disability includes any physical, sensory, mental, psychological or other impairment, condition or illness that has, or is perceived by significant sectors of the community to have, a substantial or longterm effect on an individual’s ability to carry out ordinary day-to-day activities. Why was it so easy to b...

Friday, July 10, 2015. The Five Lessons I Learned During the Births of My Two Children. I am a father. again! On June 19th, a day before her due date, my wife and I had our second child, a little girl. What I was most excited about was the number 19. Now all four of us have prime number birthdays! How cool is that? Now that I have mastered two very different deliveries, here are a few things that I learned and I thought I should pass on to any dads out there about to go through the delivery process.
