Memories from Monica: Confirming My Niche
http://memoriesfrommonica.blogspot.com/2009/12/confirming-my-niche.html
Saturday, December 12, 2009. My final for my Newspaper Production (JRN 415) class is to find my niche. Last spring I considered my niche to be about Chicano culture. I thought I could write about my everyday experiences as a Chicana, both the positive and negatives experiences. Well this semester the idea of specific content writing came again and well I am using the same topic. My blog last semester was titled, Chicana Confessions. You can go here. The first one is Mi Blog es Tu Blog. This is cool becau...

Memories from Monica: September 2008
http://memoriesfrommonica.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 23, 2008. It's the economy, again, stupid! My rendition of James Carville's quote creates two points that I want to discuss. Because Bush lied when he said "Read my lips, no new taxes" at the RNC in 1988. Talk about putting lipstick on a pig! There's no more going out to the movies or buying that pretty shirt seen through the window at Torrid. There's no money! Let's leave that for another day's discussion. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Monica Martinez is a student at California Baptist ...

Memories from Monica: October 2009
http://memoriesfrommonica.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 5, 2009. As a Christian communicator I follow a code of ethics in both my personal and academic life. I value honesty and always seek to be accurate in my work. When I become a professional my beliefs will serve as my backbone. I keep in mind that what I do must bring honor to God. I know that it will take diligence and persistence to reach this goal. I will have to create a reputable name for myself, but I know that I can do it with by walking with Christ. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Memories from Monica: SP 09 JRN 215 Final Blog
http://memoriesfrommonica.blogspot.com/2009/04/sp-09-jrn-215-final-blog.html
Monday, April 13, 2009. SP 09 JRN 215 Final Blog. Overall, I enjoyed Spring semester. During Fall I was new to the school and I felt a little intimidated. But now I feel comfortable with the campus and I know my way around. So I think that I grew a lot in this school year. My faith, my writing skills, interview skills and other academic aspects developed more. I am so glad to be at CBU right now. Good luck on your endeavors. I'm sure you will do awesome! Memories from Monica: 8Xs the Fame
http://memoriesfrommonica.blogspot.com/2009/03/8xs-fame.html
Monday, March 2, 2009. Octo-Mom Nadya Suleman permeated news reports since early February. It was a human interest story that involved a unique birth of multiple children, but now her reputation has changed, especially with the release of Radar’s video. This is when grandmother Suleman reprimands and publicly argues with her daughter in regard to the number of children. March 2, 2009 at 3:20 PM. March 3, 2009 at 10:50 AM. March 4, 2009 at 12:33 PM. Memories from Monica: October 2008
http://memoriesfrommonica.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 30, 2008. Being Latina in the United States (MIDTERM). I chose this topic because one of my career goals is to have a magazine targeted to young Latinas. I would include political, social, college, “real life,” beauty, fashion and cultural sections to assist the ladies in any of the situations they might be facing. And plus it's hard to live biculturally and bilingually. :). Another post that caught my attention was one that talked about Ruben Salazar. Salazar was a journalist who g...

Chicana Confessions: I'm Mexican and I don't have swine flu
http://chicanaconfessions.blogspot.com/2009/05/im-mexican-and-i-dont-have-swine-flu.html
Thursday, May 14, 2009. I'm Mexican and I don't have swine flu. The hype has died down over swine flu, Mexico and being brown. But while it was the hot topic, my fellow Mexicanos were subjected to discrimination. Take for example Vicente Fernandez, one of Mexico's most treasured singers. He couldn't perform at two Latin American countries because he's Mexican and he might have infected the public with the swine flu because you know he has it. Egypt: don't slaughter me! Asia: don't quarantine me! Does she...

Chicana Confessions: Hello, my name is not Maria
http://chicanaconfessions.blogspot.com/2009/03/hello-my-name-is-not-maria.html
Wednesday, March 4, 2009. Hello, my name is not Maria. I waited for about five minutes and then Betty showed up. She told me that I had to water the plants, wash off some dirt from tables, and "zone." Later I would get trained on the register and then I would have to take some tests on my knowledge of plants. ha! This conversation seemed to run short but after she finished assigning my tasks, she asked my name. I told her "Monica.". She said, "For some reason I feel like calling you Maria.". I was called...
