Is Harvest time the Right time for Cultural Appropriation? Sugar Skull] “Mexican Handcrafts and Folk Art” Wikipedia. This past weekend, I was getting together with a friend of mine who is, among other things, a priestess of Wicca and a shamanic practitioner. When I suggested that, on a fine October Sunday, we brave the crowds of Salem, MA, a town whose name is now the eponymous “Witch City,” an audible, uncomfortable pause on the phone told me all I needed to know. So, I would like to give a different fr...

Poems of the Day. I gave myself the somewhat daunting task of writing a poem every day. For some, this is nothing; they write everyday religiously, devoutly, solemnly. Me? I am a wayward soul. I write when I feel like it and don’t when I don’t. Among poets, I am a sinner. I’ve put no boundaries on myself for content, length, or quality. A haiku counts just as much as a crappy poem or a good, longish one. Is Harvest time the Right time for Cultural Appropriation? This past weekend, I was getting together ...

Birds and Rain | Patricia Roy

https://patriciaroy.wordpress.com/2013/06/28/birds-and-rain

Last night and early this morning, a thunderstorm rumbled through and brought some intense downpours. It kept coming in waves, like someone crying. Fresh Fiddlehead Fern Greens. Look for a tight coil and only an inch or two of stem beyond the coil. There is a brown papery chaff that surrounds the fiddlehead on the plant. Much of this will have been removed prior to purchase, but some may remain. (See below for ways to remove Fiddlehead chaff.). Good fiddleheads should have a distinctly crisp texture, both raw and after brief cooking. After the chaff is removed wash the fiddleheads in several changes of cold water to remove any dirt or grit.
