Kris Cordova: April 2016
http://kriscordova.blogspot.com/2016_04_01_archive.html
Ironman age grouper with a tendency to dream. Tuesday, April 5, 2016. When I bought my cyclocross bike back in November, I had no intention of ever using it for a cyclocross race. Instead, the goal was to give gravel grinding. A try This relatively new sport with a funny name has consumed my imagination all winter, and after my first actual gravel race this past weekend, I feel compelled to write about it here. So, why gravel? Here's why, in a nutshell. Look at where you get to ride! On a recommendation ...

Kris Cordova: August 2015

Ironman age grouper with a tendency to dream. Saturday, August 1, 2015. There's an opportunity at my company to speak in front of an audience about an inspiring or uplifting story, something that connects with people, sort of like a Ted Talk. Those selected will be coached by a professional storyteller to tell their story in front of 150 people. They've done these talks in 2 of our sites already, and after I watched a video of one of the stories. I knew I wanted to do it. I didn't feel worthy. Why me?

Ironman age grouper with a tendency to dream. Saturday, April 25, 2015. New Orleans 70.3 2015 Race Report: Going By Feel. After chip, chip, chipping away at my half ironman time for the last couple of years, I had a breakthrough race at New Orleans 70.3 last weekend. I improved my PR (achieved at Buffalo Springs last summer) by just under 30 minutes (5:14! Tenth place in my age group! Reunited with my 70.3 Worlds buddies. Mary Evelyn and Bree at packet pickup - love these girls! Which is lucky, because w...

Kris Cordova: Don't Quit
http://kriscordova.blogspot.com/2016/09/dont-quit.html
Ironman age grouper with a tendency to dream. Sunday, September 18, 2016. Three weeks to Ironman Louisville. I drove to one of my favorite trailheads on the Salado Creek Greenway at Tobin Park. The workout was to run easy for 30 minutes, push it up to zone 2-2.5 for an hour, and then to run easy for the last 30 minutes. Giving up during training just allows you to give up more easily on race day. I've been stronger than that before. I can do it again. Running back into the shade, I made a decision to run...

Kris Cordova: October 2016

Ironman age grouper with a tendency to dream. Sunday, October 16, 2016. Ironman Louisville Race Report 2016: Lucky #7. Note: Having done both, I can confidently say that I would rather spend 16 hours completing an ironman than sitting in a car for the same amount of time. Then, I realized that's exactly what my Norseman crew did during my race two months ago, and I'm filled with additional love and appreciation for the effort and discomfort that that took. Ouch. Why do you keep doing it? I made errors wi...

Ironman age grouper with a tendency to dream. Tuesday, September 29, 2015. Ironman Lake Tahoe 2015 Race Report. None of us had been to Tahoe before. Tough swimming at altitude but so beautiful, clear, and little gold flakes washing up on the shore. Race day arrived with some drama - a black bear had broken into the transition on the beach the night before and eaten 5 gear bags! I suppose bears can't resist Honey Stingers either. I realized how foolish it was to store food in our bags overnight, but I...

Kris Cordova: Norseman 2016 Race Report
http://kriscordova.blogspot.com/2016/08/norseman-2016-race-report.html
Ironman age grouper with a tendency to dream. Wednesday, August 10, 2016. Norseman 2016 Race Report. It Gets Into Your Soul. My new friend Basia and I started talking, and I revealed that it was my second time racing here. She joked that I must be crazy. As I tried to explain myself, another woman standing nearby spoke up quietly, "I was here in 2014 also, as support. After that day, I knew I had to do the race. It takes over your mind - it gets into your soul.". After watching a 10-day forecast that sho...
