Brian Davis' Fishing Journal. Fly fishing, photography and an occasional haiku. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Newer posts →. January 1, 2016. I spent the morning away from home on this first day of 2016. In the company of family in beautiful East Texas, I couldn’t have asked for a better way to ring in the new year. Arriving back home mid-afternoon afforded me an opportunity to get a little fishing in. The kind of sky you get in Winter with the sun at it’s low angle. Besides, today ...

Brian Davis' Fishing Journal. Fly fishing, photography and an occasional haiku. Skip to primary content. July 12, 2015. It’s been a few years since I have fished with anything but a fly rod. I tell myself I’m not a snob about it. And I really don’t think I am. So why did I feel like a backslider a few days ago when I caught a bass on a spinning rig. For my true feelings about this, see my previous confession. http:/ wp.me/pS6C5-iQ. This entry was posted in Fishing. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

When I’m not working, either at church or around the house, I like to fish. I like to fish a lot. I blog about it at fishingjournal.wordpress.com. I could say it’s my alter-ego, but on that site I would just describe my church job as my alter-ego. Here are some links to stuff that don’t have anything to do with worship technologies. Flyfishing the Muddy South. November 16, 2013. Grand Bature bayou. The same location as the last long day. 18” of pure dinner. 8221; After a quick fight he pulled in a nice little White trout. I knew it was time for the anchor. Chase was blown away by how easy they were to catch. He was running out of shrimp so I told him to cut one of the smaller trout in to small pieces. To his surprise he was catching more on the cut bait than the live shrimp! Funniest part of the day was cleaning the fish! Probably o...

Flyfishing the Muddy South. Savin’ some Greenbacks! June 1, 2014. Okay so yeah, I went and got so wrapped up in building this thing, that I didn’t even stop to take pictures of each step. And when I say “got wrapped up”…. really means that I had an ADD episode…. Or maybe it was OCD…. Either way, it didn’t occur to me until the whole process was done, that I forgot the camera! So…. I am posting after-the-fact! Too rich for my blood…. Or at least the blood my wife would spill if I bought one! 3) 2- shelvin...

Heart Problems →. May 25, 2015 · 10:11 pm. Tomorrow worries me. I worry about security, acceptance, job performance, and unknown calamity. I worry about my kids and my granddaughter. I worry about my parents. I worry about getting older and not being valued. I worry about rejection. So don’t worry at all about having enough food and clothing…your heavenly Father already knows perfectly well that you need them,. And what’s the use of worrying? What good does it do? Will it add a single day to your life?

Flyfishing the Muddy South. Here’s to all the Fathers…. June 21, 2015. My rock, my leaning post, my teacher, my Friend. He was the strong hand that helped me up when I fell, and the shove to try again. My father was everything he ever needed to be and more! Many of you will say or write something similar on Father’s Day! I wanted to share who my Father was to me before I got deep into this post. My father taught me one of the most important things in life….How to fish! I also remember laying in the botto...

No Clear Line: White Bass Can't Jump
http://noclearline.blogspot.com/2012/04/white-bass-cant-jump.html
Thursday, April 5, 2012. White Bass Can't Jump. There is a peculiar right of spring in my part of the country (that would be the country of Texas, in case you were wondering) that involves the White Bass run. Some in north and east Texas call these fish "Sandies", but in the Hill Country, they are White Bass, or Morone Chrysops (chrysops means "golden eye") if you are of a scientific bent. A word of caution - the fish are not the only whites you may encounter. April 5, 2012 at 5:20 PM. The School Of Hard...
