Curious Kai: Goodbye, Provedore
http://curiouskai.blogspot.com/2011/04/goodbye-provedore.html
Monday, April 04, 2011. Provedore, the neatest little restaurant and bar here in Napier, not to mention being my workplace for almost three years, closed its doors yesterday. I like to think of the place as being a bit like a Gucci shirt, hanging in a wardrobe full of rugby jerseys; out amongst the provinces, where steak and fush liberally dusted with chopped parsley is considered de rigeur. Snow’s BBQ [Lexington – Texas] | Food Trails and Tales
https://foodtrailsandtales.wordpress.com/2011/02/09/snows-bbq-lexington-texas
Food Trails and Tales. Snow’s BBQ [Lexington – Texas]. February 9, 2011. Defnitely, a no-frills place. In known for it’s barbeque. And Texans take pride in this. Every Texan has a secret family recipe for the sauce or the rub or for they way the meat is smoked. So jealously guarded that they would have to kill you if they told you. The Mount Olympus of the gods of barbeque. Opens at 8 on Saturday mornings and closes when they run out of meat, which can happen pretty early. We got there at around 12:4...

Saint Ann Restaurant & Bar [Dallas TX] | Food Trails and Tales
https://foodtrailsandtales.wordpress.com/2011/10/15/saint-ann-restaurant-bar-dallas-tx
Food Trails and Tales. Saint Ann Restaurant and Bar [Dallas TX]. October 15, 2011. My French teacher recommended this restaurant a while ago and I filed the information away. I trusted her judgement for two totally different reasons. On one hand, she’s a well-travelled woman and people who travel a lot tend to have a more open mind and a more discriminating palate (in my humble opinion). And, on the other hand, her name is Anne, the restaurant is called Saint Ann. Pepper sauce and the. Platter. The s...

Prospect [San Francisco CA] | Food Trails and Tales

Food Trails and Tales. Prospect [San Francisco CA]. February 15, 2012. Sean and I took a celebratory trip to San Francisco the day we closed on our new house. It was only a weekend but it seemed longer what with all the walking we did up and down hills. It was exhausting; we needed lots of good quality fuel. Anyway, we got to Prospect a little before eleven and it was closed. Sean sat down on the benches outside and I strolled to The Embarcadero to take photos of the Bay Bridge. I ordered ricotta donuts ...

Curious Kai: Cabbage Bread
http://curiouskai.blogspot.com/2011/07/cabbage-bread.html
Friday, July 01, 2011. What manner of devilry is this? These fanciful looking critters are in fact standard, easily-baked-at-home rolls encased in cabbage leaves, resulting in this cool effect:. Given that my first task upon arriving at work is to make bread, it seemed the perfect excuse to give it a try. Make your bread dough; allow to rise. Knock back, cut into equal sized portions and roll into, er, rolls. Wrap each roll up loosely in a leaf with everything tucked up underneath; ideally, the w...Twent...

Curious Kai: Raw Milk: Punch
http://curiouskai.blogspot.com/2011/05/raw-milk-punch.html
Thursday, May 26, 2011. My god, have you ever tasted raw milk? I wanted to get my hands on some just to see what it was like - it's amazing stuff! It's rich and creamy and sweet, and leaves bog-standard blue top in the dust. I made something with it which I'll post about soon, but in the meantime, here's a slightly altered cocktail recipe¹ that uses raw milk's richness to good effect. NB: give the milk a good swirl before pouring, as the cream will be sitting at the top of the container. 26/05/11, 2:35 PM.
