The Finch Nest

Monday, December 10, 2012. Here's a quick update on the big adventure:. During this time of transition, we are staying with my hubby's mom, so the kids are enjoying time with their grandmother. For me, I'm just ready to be in my own home, in our own routine. I have taken tons of photos during this process, but haven't had much time at the computer to get them organized and ready to share. I'm planning to, though, so check back soon! Friday, September 28, 2012. Apparently, I'm not a very good blogger.

The Finch Nest: September 2011

http://www.fledglingfinches.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, September 20, 2011. All's FAIR at the BIG E! On Saturday, we decided to take advantage of the beautiful fall day and go up to Massachusetts for the Big E Fair. Check out the photos below - and let me just say that the high-speed, big zoom camera was just awesome and capturing the pix of the Motocross event - I took tons of pictures and found that much to my surprise, watching an event like that was lots of fun! Did you know that Bugaboo could twirl 2 hula-hoops at once? And check out his style!

The Finch Nest: October 2011

http://www.fledglingfinches.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Friday, October 14, 2011. On Columbus Day, in honor of all things *historical*, we decided to take a road trip to Old Sturbridge Village. So, here are a few photos from the day, edited with all my modern gizmos to look antique-y and more interesting. I was feeling a little artsy-fartsy today, so indulge my vintage coloring and enhancements. (Kudos to Canon camera and my iMac for making this blog post possible). Bringing back vintage vests for boys :). Getting ready for winter. The old saw mill. Peanut wi...

The Finch Nest: The Big Dig

Thursday, October 13, 2011. Over the weekend, we had the amazing opportunity to spend the day with the Carrier Builder Family. A local builder who generously donated The Big Dig as an auction item to raise money for the local elementary school. Marc and I attended the fund raiser, and bid on this prize, knowing that our boys would absolutely love it! And we were so happy to be the big winners! Getting ready for the Big Dig! Look at all the cool construction trucks! Peanut with Johnny the builder! Their w...

Wednesday, April 27, 2011. The World's Tallest Sandcastle! The World's Tallest Sandcastle. Is under construction now, at Winding Trails in Farmington CT. I took the boys last week to help move sand, and they had a blast! There is nothing quite like climbing huge piles of sand, filling buckets, and then dumping them out! Since I was encouraging them to get all sandy and dirty, they were loving it! Monday, April 25, 2011. Sunday, April 3, 2011. A Last Look at Winter. Do you see Bugaboo? He competed in boar...

Thursday, September 27, 2012. Every fall, we take a trip out to Stribling Orchard. Family owned for over 200 years,. The orchard boasts a wonderful assortment of seasonal deliciousness. Today, we stuffed our bags (and our bellies). I think an applie pie is on the menu for the weekend! Or maybe we'll try pumpkin instead :). Labels: My little ones. Thursday, September 20, 2012. Goggles & grace: October 2011

http://gogglesandgrace.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 11, 2011. Science lessons lay scattered across the kitchen table. Sat unopened on the bed. Library books rested neatly on the desk. And math problems remained unsolved on the chalkboard. Cause when the sun shines brightly in October,. The outdoor thermometer tops out at 73 degrees (yet again! And rain rests squarely in tomorrow's forecast. What's a gal to do? Scrap the schoolwork (for the time being, at least :) and head outdoors! It seemed to be a popular choice :). My baby. Thirteen.

Goggles & grace: Snow!

http://gogglesandgrace.blogspot.com/2013/12/snow.html

Thursday, December 12, 2013. At least a couple inches…. Enough for a few snowballs,. A shovel-load or two for fort-building…. And a snowball fight before dusk. Occasionally, even a direct hit! Rejoicing today in wintery gifts- and a child's sweet prayer…. Thank you, God, for snow! Were getting some freezing rain right now, with snow to come later today. It makes me feel so lazy, so Im catching up on my blog reading. : ) Beautiful pictures, and beautiful kids. December 13, 2013 at 2:34 PM.

Goggles & grace: September 2011

http://gogglesandgrace.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 29, 2011. And the flowers are still blooming. The bugs are still hopping,. The bees are still buzzing,. And the tomatoes are still growing. Hopefully, I'll eek a few more off the vine before the weather snaps and all is done. The windows are wide open and the cooler breezes are filtering through. I love, love, love this time of year. Sometimes I wish fall would stay for 12 months on end. But then I'd miss the snows of winter. And the new life of spring time. Yes, change is good. And t...

Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Observations from the beach. The beach (any beach! Truly is one of my favorite destinations on earth. Elegance and poise, however, will never be my companions there. Traipsing across a sun-baked dune. with a folding chair and tote bag in hand. in the 105 degree heat. will never a pretty picture make. Goggles & grace: Color, imperfections… and absolute perfection

http://gogglesandgrace.blogspot.com/2013/11/color-imperfections-and-absolute.html

Thursday, November 21, 2013. Color, imperfections… and absolute perfection. Our neighbors have a gorgeous maple tree in their front yard. Today, vibrant hues of raspberry, melon, and sunshine yellow cover their lawn,. But a few days ago, before the winds whistled through its branches. And shuffled all that color to the ground,. Those leaves danced through the air and shimmied with delight in the afternoon sky. Savoring the autumn goodness that IS this time of year,. We spent lots-o-time out of doors.

Goggles & grace: Christmas is coming!

http://gogglesandgrace.blogspot.com/2013/11/christmas-is-coming.html

Sunday, November 24, 2013. The tree is up, and most of its ornaments are nestled carefully in place. The girls decorated to their hearts' content, and many branches now hold multiple. Chris thought (with a smile) I might want to do a little re-arranging after they went to bed, so I carefully moved the fragile ones to higher ground. The others I left in place, however, as their resting places had been lovingly and thoughtfully chosen by sweet little hands. God is so good. And this will be a sign for you:.

Monday, November 18, 2013. 1000 Gifts: Eight weeks. We've been home from China for 8 weeks. Eight fast-paced and mildly chaotic weeks. Eight overwhelming and calendar-full weeks. Eight exhausting and often-times strenuous weeks. Weeks, clearly marked by the Maker's hand. By His generosity, His compassion, His care. And most of them continue to look like this. For all His gifts, I give thanks,. And I continue to add to my list. I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart;. Virginia, United States.
