Tales of birding, ringing and observing wildlife around the Fylde area of Lancashire and beyond. Sunday, 26 October 2014. At Least I Tried. This morning I had full cloud cover with a 25 mph SW wind. At about 10.30 am the sun made a brief appearance and made the already tricky murky conditions worse by adding a heat haze into the mix! And the poor viewing conditions were probably a contributory factor to the lack of action! The sea was very quiet and all I had were a Cormorant. Saturday, 25 October 2014.

I've had further work this week in the Wenning Valley, and as I've trundled my measuring wheel along I've been able to do some birding again. Unfortunately I didn't see quite as much as last time but my sightings included three House Sparrows,. Primrose - I came across a good number on a wooded embankment. Monday, 23 February 2015. And 18 Tree Sparrows.

Ian and I had another ringing session in the reedbed this morning and as earlier in the week it was quiet again. The weather conditions were similar with 7 oktas cloud cover and a light southeasterly breeze. We managed to ring one more bird than Wednesday with eleven ringed as follows (recaptures in brackets):. Whitethroat - 1 (1). Great Tit - 1. Reed Warbler - 4 (1).

It is absolutely pouring down as I sit and write this on a thoroughly miserable Monday morning, so no site visits for me today. Yesterday it was cold with a 20 mph west-southwesterly wind and the only thing to do was a bit of sea watching. I didn't get to the point until 0630 and was joined later by Howard and then Ian. Rocketing' in to the Bay just over the surf!

This morning Kim and I carried out the first nest box check of my Pied Flycatcher. Boxes in the Hodder Valley and Tree Sparrow. Boxes on the moss. I was very interested to find out what the occupancy rate was, particularly for the Pied Flycatchers and wondered whether they would be behind because of the cold spring. Blue Tit - 7. Pied Flycatcher - 8. Great Tit - 6.

Tuesday, 18 December 2012. The worlds biggest disco ball! One of the sculptures on the prom is the mirrorball, i took this shot using a Cokin 7 point filter and stacked my warm up filter behind it.
