Welcome in the Hillside. Renovating a stone cow barn in Snowdonia National Park. Monday, October 30, 2006. As autumn comes to a close. Secondly, they don't seem to be fitting in place as easily as the lower courses. At one point it took 4 hours to fit 9 slates! There has also been another clear out of the garden around the barn and cottage before winter sets in. A chance to stock up on firewood and make the place look somewhat presentable again. Welcome in the Hillside: Trouble with the locals!
http://welcomeinthehillside.blogspot.com/2006/05/trouble-with-locals.html
Welcome in the Hillside. Renovating a stone cow barn in Snowdonia National Park. Saturday, May 20, 2006. Trouble with the locals! It is now the middle of spring and we had hoped to have the roof completed by now. But as you were informed in our blog intro, this was always going to be a slow process while juggling demanding jobs and other committments. But slowly and surely, a few more slates have been nailed in place. The garden has also been cleared (again! And all the brush has been burned. R & B.

Welcome in the Hillside: Rooflights and rain
http://welcomeinthehillside.blogspot.com/2007/03/rooflights-and-rain.html
Welcome in the Hillside. Renovating a stone cow barn in Snowdonia National Park. Tuesday, March 20, 2007. We ordered the only rooflight we could find to fit between the peak and the purlin. It has to be used as an emergency escape hatch, so must be a 'top hung' design. It will have to do, even though a fairly wide person would have to turn sideways to get through it! Much light is let in from such a small window. The Health and Safety Exec would not be pleased! Posted by R and B at 7:10 pm. R & B. This b...

Welcome in the Hillside: February 2007
http://welcomeinthehillside.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html
Welcome in the Hillside. Renovating a stone cow barn in Snowdonia National Park. Thursday, February 22, 2007. Working at the Peak! More slates have been re-positioned to make the whole roof lie flatter. Amazingly, the barn stayed dry and all the slates stayed intact during the 8 weeks of crazy Welsh mountain weather. Welcome in the Hillside: 'Y Bywyd Da'

Welcome in the Hillside. Renovating a stone cow barn in Snowdonia National Park. Sunday, May 07, 2006. This is the Good Life! April 2006 - The days are longer and warmer. As each course continues across the roof, we find we must 'double batten' in places to accommodate for the irregularity of the pitch and profile of the roof. Posted by R and B at 6:57 pm. R & B. Welcome in the Hillside. Renovating a stone cow barn in Snowdonia National Park. Saturday, June 09, 2007. The ridge is on the horizon! It has been a very long and difficult job getting the last couple of rows in place. We are having to cut slates to fit as there are not many left to choose from. The question is, will we run out of reclaimed slates before we finish? According to our calculations, we will just have enough! A debate has begun on what job will be next.rebuild the pig sty? R & B. Welcome in the Hillside: December 2006

Welcome in the Hillside. Renovating a stone cow barn in Snowdonia National Park. Sunday, December 31, 2006. Wild, Wet, Windy, Welsh Wales. It has been an unusually wet and windy December in North Wales. Or should we say wetter and windier than usual! Our dog 'Haf' found it a bit easier going, staying naturally low to the ground! The extreme weather did not let up until February, making the whole project slow down to a halt! Posted by R and B at 7:39 pm. R & B. North Wales, United Kingdom. Trouble with th...
