Quiche Co-Op Cook’s Challenge | Flour & Hops
https://flourandhops.wordpress.com/2013/02/19/quiche-co-op-cooks-challenge
A beer tasting, baking, mess making blog! Quiche Co-Op Cook’s Challenge. My local Co-Op posted their first “Cook’s Challenge” on Valentine’s Day and I decided to give it a whirl. The challenge was for quiche – imaginary bonus points for making the crust yourself! Guide and got some pretty good results. After the butter was mixed in with the flour I added a few tablespoons of water until a dough formed. And let’s be honest – the dough doesn’t magically form the way recipes say. I...Maybe it was because I ...
Stuffed Peppers – Pizza Style | Flour & Hops
https://flourandhops.wordpress.com/2014/03/02/stuffed-peppers-pizza-style
A beer tasting, baking, mess making blog! Stuffed Peppers – Pizza Style. I teach junior high. When I tell people that, I’m always entertained by their response. Most of the time they recoil in horror (and if I’m totally. Honest, some days I do, too). But my kids are amazing and in general we don’t give kids enough credit. Get to watch the struggle play out and the kids handle it with such incredible grace. Awkward, stumbling , pimply grace, but grace. Start by cutting and seeding the peppers. This is...
Beer Dinner Menus | Flour & Hops
https://flourandhops.wordpress.com/beer-dinner-menus
A beer tasting, baking, mess making blog! I hold beer dinners with eight to twelve people about every other month. For each dinner I choose a beer style and each guest brings at least 20 ounces of beer to share. For the first hour we taste the beers and compare notes. Then, I serve dinner and each dish is paired with a different beer. May 2014 – IPAs. Broccoli Grape Salad with Gold Digger IPA, brewed by Auburn Alehouse Brewery, ABV: 6.2%. With Panic IPA, brewed by Track 7 Brewing Co, ABV: 7.0%. Apple Pie...

Recipes! | Flour & Hops
https://flourandhops.wordpress.com/recipes
A beer tasting, baking, mess making blog! Here are my versions of the various recipes I’ve tried. Personally I hate in a recipe how they give you the list of amounts only in the ingredients list and then while you’re following directions you constantly have to go back and forth. I’ll try to write the recipe out the way I like to read them. Pizza Style Stuffed Peppers. Quiche with Zucchini and Bell Pepper. Broccoli, Tomato, and Mozzarella Salad. Peanut Butter Chip Chocolate Cookies. Enter your comment here.

Snickerdoodle Cupcakes - Your Cup of Cake
http://www.yourcupofcake.com/2010/11/snickerdoodle-cupcakes.html
Your Cup of Cake. November 13, 2010. By Lizzy Mae Early. Middot; 47 Comments. I needed to make a thank you treat this morning. When I asked the friend what kind of baked goods she liked, she said snickerdoodles, oatmeal raisin cookies, Funfetti cake, and chocolate cake. I didn’t have any raisins on hand and I knew that her mother makes fabulous snickerdoodle cookies, so there would be no point in trying to compare to those. So instead of failing in comparison, I just tried to take a different approach.

flour+hand | things I bake and things I make
Things I bake and things I make. A trip to Riversdale. Posted by karen brown. Asymp; 1 Comment. I have never been to Riversdale before, which is surprising considering that it is only a couple of hours from Wellington. So when a dear friend invited me to spend the night at her Riversdale bach (that’s Kiwi for a simple beach or holiday house), I jumped into the car and headed over the hills. The new kitchen has laminate cupboard fronts that evoke the 60’s with their slanting fronts and chrome pull k...
Flour & Hops | A beer tasting, baking, mess making blog!
A beer tasting, baking, mess making blog! The summer is almost at an end – I’m setting my alarm tonight for the first time in about a week. Tomorrow is the beginning of pre-year meetings and planning sessions even though the kids don’t come back for another week and a half. I’m not quite ready. Even though I didn’t participate in many of the official events, I did a lot of unofficial tastings at home. Although the cap was pretty awesome…. Welsh Rarebit with a brown ale, and finally an IPA BBQ sauce.

100 Loaves of Solitude | baking my way through 100 traditional loaves of Europe
100 Loaves of Solitude. Baking my way through 100 traditional loaves of Europe. 100 loaves by country. 100 loaves in order. Bread 34: Socca from Nice. April 3, 2015. Nice seems like a strange place to come across a chickpea pancake, but it’s thought (according to, ahem, Wiki) to have originated with Italy’s farinata, which then spread across the coast of the Ligurian Sea. This variety of the chickpea-and-olive oil combination is local to Provence. And they had that delicious crispiness that you usually o...
