Television Reception: September 2010
http://televisionreception.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
A blog about television and its audiences. Thursday, September 30, 2010. Its a (Ker)mode of feeling. Last year I was very happy to get an iPod nano (5th Gen) from my partner and I started listening to podcasts at last. This included Mark Kermode's movie review show. One of the great things about Kermode (ignoring his obsession with The Exorcist) is that on radio he expresses his views about films in ways that are very emotive. And check out the podcast on the BBC website if you don't already listen.

Television Reception: October 2010
http://televisionreception.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
A blog about television and its audiences. Tuesday, October 19, 2010. The point of reception studies is to examine at the meanings that people make from things (texts, events, experiences). It studies what I could call the hermeneutic work of individuals. I think that looking at this work and making hypotheses about why people make these meanings results in conclusions about society and people's place within it. Posted by Matt c. Links to this post. Television Reception: On why people write and comment
http://televisionreception.blogspot.com/2010/09/on-why-people-write-and-comment.html
A blog about television and its audiences. Monday, September 6, 2010. On why people write and comment. I have been trying to argue at different points in my Phd that when people write about television they are doing so because they care. About the thing they are write about. And a letter is not passive; it is a production of activity based upon this caring. It is active in that the indidivual must do something for it to appear and enter circulation and. This doesn't mean that the letters of people who ca...

Television Reception: Where good ideas come from
http://televisionreception.blogspot.com/2010/10/where-good-ideas-come-from.html
A blog about television and its audiences. Sunday, October 3, 2010. Where good ideas come from. I just finished reading Steven Johnson's The Ghost Map. About a cholera epidemic in Soho and the discovery that the disease was water-born. There's more to it than that but that it is a cursory summary. He has a new book out. This is nice. Television Reception: Discomfort in nation and class
http://televisionreception.blogspot.com/2010/09/discomfort-in-nation-and-class.html
A blog about television and its audiences. Monday, September 20, 2010. Discomfort in nation and class. In my last post. There are several different strands but several of them focus on the British nation; unsurprising considering that the event is annual and commonly associated with singing the national anthem and waving the union flag. Most people enjoyed the concert and the broadcast, and some the patriotic aspect. Half a minute ago. Less than 20 seconds ago. Half a minute ago. I love watching the Last...

Television Reception: Archives and reception
http://televisionreception.blogspot.com/2010/10/archives-and-reception.html
A blog about television and its audiences. Monday, October 4, 2010. I am currently at Bournemouth University going through archival material from television regulators prior to 1990. There's some interesting stuff; more fears about sex and violence, a series of letters from a convicted murderer who is convinced that every February television sets out to ridicule and humiliate him (disturbing content there) and complaints about Birmingham radio's broadcasts of the Geet Mela.
