Polly-Vous Francais?: Lessons from Mrs. Goodfellow

http://pollyvousfrancais.blogspot.com/2014/08/lessons-from-mrs-goodfellow.html

Saturday, August 02, 2014. Lessons from Mrs. Goodfellow. When I was in college, I spent summers waitressing in a perfect, perfectly charming historic inn in Maine. One of the delights was to be assigned to a table of summer "residents" - guests who came to stay at the hotel for a month or so, who had been coming to the inn for decades. One of these was Mrs. Goodfellow. She exclaimed over the thoughtful gesture even more than was necessary, her luminous blue eyes shining, lighting up my day. The next week...

Polly-Vous Francais?: August 2014

http://pollyvousfrancais.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Saturday, August 16, 2014. I'm a huge fan of the blue doors in Paris. Some days, when I was living in Paris, when I didn't quite know what to do with myself, I would just wander the streets for hours snapping photo upon photo of variations on blue doors. I posted them here. And now, looking back, I wonder if that need to see the same image repeated in various forms was in fact a comforting, Le-Petit-Prince. Kind of activity. As in, the Little Prince who one day watched 43 sunsets. Labels: where am I?

Polly-Vous Francais?: 10 Blue Doors

http://pollyvousfrancais.blogspot.com/2008/06/10-blue-doors.html

Friday, June 06, 2008. Posted by Polly-Vous Francais. When I was at the French consulate yesterday my He-weasel was reading News From France. And, whose blog was written about in the Feb. 22,08 edition? That is so very cool. Oh, and the door pictures are great too. :-). June 06, 2008 6:02 PM. I was so thrilled when News From France wrote about me - so of course I bragged about it on the blog! Http:/ pollyvousfrancais.blogspot.com/2008/03/news-from-france.html. June 07, 2008 2:04 AM. Polly-Vous Francais?: New Year's Day, Paris

http://pollyvousfrancais.blogspot.com/2011/01/new-years-day-paris.html

Saturday, January 01, 2011. New Year's Day, Paris. There's a kind of hush. Paris, the morning after. I expected it at 9 am on New Year's Day. Everyone sleeping in after all that champagne. But even by almost noon, the streets were still silent. I walked to the Boissiere metro stop, and could have used the street instead of the sidewalk: not a car in sight. On a Saturday morning! The metro was free until noon. Even so, only a handful of passengers. Ah, Paris the mystery is always unfolding! January 04, 20...

Friday, October 14, 2005. Thanks, But No Thanks. If you've ever been accused of looking at the world through rose-colored glasses a little too often, you'll understand when I say that so many meals always seem better in anticipation and in memory than they do while they're in progress. Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners are good examples of this phenomenon. In fact, I'm already looking at the cover of Bon Apetite's. The reality, of course, will be nothing like this at all. And Food and Wine. Crawfish or ...
