From Nothing to Something

Tuesday, August 20, 2013. A Dash of Vintage for the Desk. On an exceedingly wet weekend back at the end of June, I was lucky enough to have an impromptu trip to the Terrigal Vintage and Antiques Fair. A quick wander around and I spotted a cute little stool with drop down steps that needed a tiny bit of love. From the moment I saw it I knew it was for me! She looks at home now, but what should her name be? She did resemble a walking frame without the cushion, so Esther perhaps? Thursday, August 1, 2013.

From Nothing to Something: March 2012

http://fromnothing-to-something.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, March 31, 2012. What are we building? The cladding will be weatherboard, focusing on lightweight construction due to the slope of the site (although this hasn't meant smaller piers! Originally we decided on vertical weathertex panelling, but of course, I have since changed my mind and we're going to use horizontal boards, with maybe a modern take on fibro on the lower storey and bay windows sections. The posts shown across the front of the house will now be partially retaining wall. Inspired by...

From Nothing to Something: July 2012

http://fromnothing-to-something.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 30, 2012. Framework is on the home stretch. Over the last two weeks the house has changed a lot, but the most exciting stages happened late last week. The top floor framing went up, and over two days, the rafters went up over the living and kitchen spaces. The encasing of the space with the rafters has really made everything feel real and it is starting to sink in that this really is going to be my house. Top floor taking shape. Top floor from rear deck space. Kitchen and living room space.

From Nothing to Something: August 2012

http://fromnothing-to-something.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 20, 2012. The house is really starting to take shape now. Over the last week, the ply bracing has been constructed along with all the bottom storey cladding. The best moment of the week was looking outside to see the glass doors on the front of the house going in. The doors which looked small on the ground seems as though they have doubled in size! I can't wait for the deck to start going on in another few weeks. The house is starting to gain some personality. Doors onto the back deck.

From Nothing to Something: November 2012

http://fromnothing-to-something.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 28, 2012. Transformation from Building Site to a Home. The transformation is almost complete. The build is becoming a house. We are even calling it the house now instead of 'the build'. The last week and a half has seen the painting inside finished and the floor polished. One of the most awaited features completed is the timber lining under the island bench. It looks incredible! It's time to show you the inside. Entry Stairwell - Time for shoes off. Silver stools will be the way to go.

From Nothing to Something: September 2012

http://fromnothing-to-something.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 24, 2012. Lily Arrives and Lock Up is Here! Our new little bundle of joy, Lily, arrived on 5 September! Her arrival did not signal a slow down on the build, if anything it seems to have sped up. Hooray! It is lucky that she is not our first baby as everyday life continued on like she had always been there. Images of our girls playing in the hallways of our new house now fill my imagination. It is a wonderful prospect and one that I can't wait to see evolve. Bay window in our room. 65279...

Little Red House: Today is my Dad's birthday

http://littleredhouse-jr.blogspot.com/2011/07/today-is-my-dads-birthday.html

Tuesday, July 05, 2011. Today is my Dad's birthday. Today is my Dad's birthday, he is fifty eight today. Except he isn't here to celebrate with us anymore but I like to remember it anyway and will always mention it to my sisters and Ashley when the 5th of July comes around each year. For a long time after he died I was very sad and could hardly talk about it to anybody but now fifteen years later the words come a lot easier but there is still a tear in my eyes as I write this. Journal of family memories.

Little Red House: Our backyard project; where did we end up you ask?

http://littleredhouse-jr.blogspot.com/2011/06/our-backyard-project-where-did-we-end.html

Tuesday, June 28, 2011. Our backyard project; where did we end up you ask? Seriously how fast does time go? Looking back to one of my very first posts. Written in August 2010 I proclaimed that Ash and I were planning a landscaping project to makeover our fairly dull backyard. Almost one year on I thought it might be about time to record exactly where we ended up. I will be the first to admit that perhaps it didn't end up as planned but the completed work is amazing and I am in love with my backyard!

Little Red House: January 2011

http://littleredhouse-jr.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 29, 2011. I love trying to take photos as often as I can and when out and about my iphone is a great way to keep this up. I only just started playing with a new app I downloaded called Hipstamatic. I love, love the way it makes photos look. Here are a few of my favourites. Em at a little beach next to Gosford pool, taken this morning. Friday afternoon piklets in the backyard. Wednesday, January 26, 2011. A big girls sleepover. Josh on the other hand enjoyed some solitude and having excl...

Little Red House: This place where we live

http://littleredhouse-jr.blogspot.com/2011/07/this-place-where-we-live.html

Thursday, July 14, 2011. This place where we live. I love exploring this beautiful place where we live. Finding a new place that makes you wonder "why don't we do things like this every week" and has the kids exclaiming "wow". The last time we explored was last year so yesterday we explored a local nature reserve, Kincumber Mountain. It was freezing and windy but we braved it anyway and the beanies actually stayed on the little heads so it must have been cold. These are the days I want to remember. It is...

Little Red House: The shy girl in the corner?

http://littleredhouse-jr.blogspot.com/2011/07/shy-girl-in-corner.html

Tuesday, July 19, 2011. The shy girl in the corner? It is hard sometimes to be critical of yourself and wonder why you act in a certain way but I think it is important to acknowledge the parts of yourself that you can improve on. Geez, this is a pretty honest post from me but now that I have written it down I am going to work out a strategy to get on with it. Maybe next week I might just get there. Have you ever felt nervous going to meet new people, how did you manage it? July 19, 2011 at 9:18 PM. Welco...

Friday, November 26, 2010. Half way to three. Look at that face! Little J is half way to three! This age is so beautiful, I wish I could bottle it up so I never forget what he was like. Love you Little J. Thursday, November 18, 2010. So here goes, we have been. Swapping postcards with other bloggers. Watching the paving contractor make laying this square of paving look super easy. Little Red House: Backyard Dreaming

http://littleredhouse-jr.blogspot.com/2010/08/backyard-dreaming.html

Friday, August 06, 2010. So here at the Little Red House there is a big project in the planning which I thought you might like to read about. So what are we going to? Paving and pergola big enough to accommodate an 8 seat table and BBQ, drainage, new lawn, sandpit, dwarf fruit trees, new washing line, a kids blackboard, expanded veggie beds and loads new plants to look after and enjoy. That pretty much sums it up, we will see how many of these we are able to achieve before the onset of summer. Welcome to...

Little Red House: April 2011

http://littleredhouse-jr.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 24, 2011. Today you are 2. Today my boy you are 2, for two years you have made life so much more fun, your beautiful sunny yet cheeky nature brightens even the dullest of days. You are very affectionate and love "cuggles" and kisses. This year you have learnt so much; how to feed yourself, walk, talk (we at least a bit), how to get yourself off to sleep unassisted, and so much more. As a little boy you love making noise and crashing things around, not to mention that you love putting on a s...

Little Red House: July 2011

http://littleredhouse-jr.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, July 26, 2011. Shy girl in the corner - a follow up. Last week I wrote here. That I was feeling tentative towards taking Joshua along to the local playgroup. It was really nice to have friends share their experiences in meeting new people and this helped me to take the plunge today and go along. I thought that there might have been a few more activities for the kids to do like craft, painting or playdough but it didn't really matter as Joshua was having heaps of fun anyway. So all up I hope that...

Little Red House: June 2011

http://littleredhouse-jr.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 30, 2011. Our Little Red House is seven today. I always remember this day, it is a bit like a birthday in our family; the purchase of our first house, as in the. Little Red House that is the namesake of this blog. Today our family fills the house with lots of laughter and fun as Ems and Josh gallivant around playing together with our dog Zorro never too far behind them. We might be starting to grow out of it but for the next few years our Little Red House will be just fine. Almost one year...

From Norway with Love. Life as we know it. Pirate in the house. As Niklas climbed the stairs as so many Norwegian kids have done before him, it was quite sentimental (at least for Marit and I! But my, we were so proud of him! As we got back to the stroller w/Emma, Niklas got a pirate costume, complete with sword and all. We included a card from "Kaptein Sabletann", telling him he'd now become a real pirate! Congratulations, Lynette and Bob! Much to Bryan's luck, his arrival coincided with Niklas' birthda...
