Thoughts From Rwanda

Saturday, September 24, 2011. Do know how exciting it is when you get a seat on a bus in Rwanda and only. Your thighs and shoulders and elbows are involuntarily pressed up against at least two other people? And your neighbors elbows are not,. In fact, poking against your side? They are busy texting. And for some odd reason there's plenty of leg room. Perhaps the windows are left open because there are not sensitive souls who don't like wind. She asked if I knew what Muslims believed in, and I said I was ...

Thoughts From Rwanda: Elementary School Textbooks

http://fromrwanda.blogspot.com/2011/09/elementary-school-textbooks.html

Friday, September 9, 2011. The elementary school students showed me their new books they waited most of the school year to read. Here are excerpts. Sorry they are so small. The section on child abuse lists one cause of child abuse as "indiscipline among some children who may be stubborn." A bit disappointed with this, but it's balanced with an image a child being hit with a stick, meant to represent one form of child abuse - a tactic the school in Rubona most certainly uses, as I wrote about earlier.

Thoughts From Rwanda: Art and other practical skills

http://fromrwanda.blogspot.com/2011/09/art-and-other-practical-skills.html

Tuesday, September 13, 2011. Art and other practical skills. It's the time of year when students in Senior 5 at ASYV and students at the vocational school down the road are thinking about what and where they want to be when they grow up. Isn't there some limit to the percentage of sugar in the water that will still dissolve? A lot of sugar! And she nodded and said, "Thankyou.". The other two students are very good at realistic drawing and are also creative. Interestingly, they are working as a team.

Thoughts From Rwanda: December 2010

http://fromrwanda.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, December 21, 2010. Books, Babies and BBQ goat. By Philip Gourevitch on the Rwandan Genocide. He was a pretty good reader. I helped him out with some words. He was happy it was about Rwanda. I sort of awkwardly shifted my head to the right as his nose was in my book and right. Next to my face, because Rwandan sense of personal space is very, very small, even compared to Israel. At first, I was a bit shocked, not quite scared, maybe…uncertain? And now, for some cute baby stories:. A year in Rwanda.

It is an inspirational movie about the genocide, with a theme of forgiveness and insight into the way religion played a role in saving thousands of people in 1994. After the film, the producers stayed for Q and A, which we feel very fortunate to have had. We learned about the role genocide plays in education and other aspects of present-day Rwandan culture. From Rust To Ride. Monday, February 6, 2012. I decided to start the recovery process with the front grille. I call it a recovery process because I don't intend on restoring the truck but I want to make it into something that would be safe to drive everyday. I'm recovering the usable parts from what is a rust bucket. The lower part of the grille was rusted away which is common on the 34s. From Rust To Ride. Monday, December 26, 2011. From Rust To Ride. From Ryan: I hope reading this encourages you. Tuesday, October 26, 2010. I Have Made A Covenant With My Eyes. That aside, I want to address the actual steps we need to take as men who love their current or future wife/children. Let's be clear. If you are sitting there as a single man, you still hold the responsibility of a husband and father. 1 Where's your computer? Get that thing out in the open. Turn the monitor where it faces the door. 2 When are you on the computer? 3 Why are you on the computer?

Monday, March 16, 2015. Black bean sweet potato cornbread. Recipe - as requested by my adoring fan base. So the kids left me alone in the kitchen too long and I got creative again. This time I spiced up some cornbread to go along with some excellent split pea and ham soup. It definitely turned out worth sharing. Black bean sweet potato cornbread. 1 cup corn meal. 1 tbsp baking powder. 1/2 up cream (optional). Milk or water till it makes a good consistency. Add corn (frozen, or from a can and drained).
