Feb 10, 2015. The MCG, as seen from Batman Avenue. The Melbourne Cricket Ground (the “MCG”, or simply “the ‘G) is arguably Australia’s premier sporting arena. This weekend Australia plays its first match in the 2015 Cricket World Cup at this 100,000 capacity crowd venue. During this series the MCG hosts five matches, including the final (which hopefully Australia will also play and win) on March 29. Less than a week after the cricket final, the AFL football season kicks off at same venue on April 2nd.

Melbourne on a key-tag. Jan 5, 2015. The “Melbourne” sign at the Queen Victoria Market. Key-tags colouring in the Melbourne sign at QVM. On the Victoria Street side of the Queen Vic Market, there’s a giant “Melbourne” sign (shown above in front of their Christmas Tree). The interior of each letter that spells out “Melbourne” is a wire grid, and attached to that wire through-out the sign are hundreds of key-tags. Previous in timeline) Phillip Island Road. Mar 29, 2015. Melbourne skyline behind the Bunbury St rail bridge. Melbourne’s railway enthusiasts love this location in Footscray for their trainspotting photos. I love it for the unique view of the city skyline. The train tracks snake in from Kensington, over the Maribrynong River, before disappearing into the Bunbury Street tunnel. Photographers can stand above the tunnel entrance on Moreland Street for this great perspective of Melbourne. Previous in category) Footscray by the river.

Footscray by the river. Mar 29, 2015. Cycling and fishing beside the Maribrynong River. These photos show the changing face of some of Melbourne’s suburbs. Looking down from the Footscray Road bridge, over the Maribrynong River, today we see recreational fishing, walking, jogging and many people on their bikes cycling along the river. There are even palm trees lining the path to the north, not something you would naturally find in the southern states, but picturesque on a sunny day! Food and Drink (1).

Due to a heavy schedule of family and work commitments, along with some medical issues, I haven’t managed to get out and about with the camera much recently. Middle of the road. Dec 30, 2015. Gertrude Street, Fitzroy, looking west towards Carlton. Street photography early on a Sunday morning, especially during the holiday season when there’s not much traffic around, can allow you to literally photograph the street. Standing in the middle of the road and pointing the camera down the white line, or tram tracks, can provide a different perspective in the city or inner suburbs where the usuall hustle and bustle would have you dodging busy traffic. Jan 4, 2016. Little Bourke Street, between Exhibition and Swanston Streets, is Melbourne’s Chinatown. For one of our city’s “Little” streets, Chinatown can get pretty busy. I spent a couple of hours exploring the area one morning between Christmas and New Years, joining many other camera wielding pedestrians in a great part of our wonderful city. My photos from this visit to Little Bourke Street are saved to the usual “ December 2015. Chinatown – Little Bourke Street, Melbourne. Long exposure in the city.
