This station is operated by members of the Scarborough Special Events Group who give their time to assist in promoting the work of the RNLI. How it all happens. Well there is a lot of work involved to organise and staff a special event station, particulary when it is operating over several days. Roy G4SSH who is the SSEG Chairman does a tremendous amount of the preparation work, thanks Roy.

Why we operate this station. So when it was mentioned to the group that a station to promote the RNLI's S. Oles could be a good idea the group said an immediate YES and so the first station ws born. Ofcom very generously permitted what we believe to be the first ever 4 letter suffix and so we were allocated GB4RNLI. and the station then operated over a weekend and then daily up to and including SOS. Day giving wide publicity to the event and raising awareness of the work of the volunteers of the RNLI.
