Georgia on my Mind

Georgia on my Mind. Tuesday, December 25, 2012. The Saga has come to an end. So I’ve returned state side, and figured that I would give one last blog post to wrap everything up. The final week in my village, and the subsequent week traveling throughout Georgia were packed with final goodbyes, and reminiscing about the ‘glory days’ in the village. At school my students said their heartfelt goodbyes, and the teachers threw me a small party to thank me for my service. Saturday morning rolled around and my h...

Georgia on my Mind: BROjomi and Vardzia

http://www.georgianteaching.blogspot.com/2012/11/brojomi-and-vardzia.html

Georgia on my Mind. Wednesday, November 7, 2012. This past weekend I ventured out of the village, and five debonair young men and I ventured to Borjomi (or as we called it BROjomi). It was Derricks birthday weekend, and we were just paid so it was a perfect time to go on an adventure. Thursday we all met in Kutaisi so that early the next morning we could travel to Borjomi by bus. Friday morning rolled around and we were searching for a taxi to take us to the bus station with little luck. Georgia may have...

Georgia on my Mind: Thoughts on Georgia part 3: Food

http://www.georgianteaching.blogspot.com/2012/12/thoughts-on-georgia-food.html

Georgia on my Mind. Sunday, December 2, 2012. Thoughts on Georgia part 3: Food. Ok, so it’s been a while since I added to my thoughts on Georgia series. Here is my analysis and my personal experience with Georgian cuisine. It seems that in my host families household it is either feast or famine. During the long stretches of eating just those items I have often resorted to picking a lot of local fruits off their trees and bushes. The most famous dish is kinkahli, a type of meat dumpling. It is a cheese br...

Georgia on my Mind: My thoughts on Georgia part 1: Education

http://www.georgianteaching.blogspot.com/2012/11/my-thoughts-on-georgia-part-1-education.html

Georgia on my Mind. Wednesday, November 14, 2012. My thoughts on Georgia part 1: Education. So I’m coming up on being in this country for 100 days (with the brief interludes in Turkey and Armenia) and have had the opportunity to experience many vastly different things than what I am used to in the United States. After reading many of my blog posts they tell great stories of the unique experiences, but seem to lack the daily life of Georgia and my personal perspectives on it. It shows you how willing the ...

Georgia on my Mind. Wednesday, September 26, 2012. Week two and making wine. Heres a mancho my host brother stirring the vat. This weekend I will be able to get out once again, because there is no school on monday (election day). A group of friends and I will be going to Batumi again to relive the adventure for round too. Wednesday, September 19, 2012. One week into school. On another note my package from home finally arrived, so now I have some movies and essential things that I was missing at home.

Georgia on my Mind: October 2012

http://www.georgianteaching.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Georgia on my Mind. Monday, October 29, 2012. Castles and village life. Ok, its been a while since I’ve checked in so I figured that I would give everyone an update on what has been going on in my village. For the past few weeks I have stayed in Akhuti experiencing the best village life that Georgia has to offer. My friends Corey and Derrick came in for a whirlwind adventure two weekends ago, which included a trip to a ruined castle and making friends with lots of people in Nogha. Luckily for us Georgian...

Throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. -Mark Twain. September 27, 2012. Sorry to all my friends and family who read my blog, I realize I have not given an update in a while. It’s been a busy few weeks, and I have either had zero motivation or crappy internet, which has resulted in my lack of blog entries lately. Saturday, December 15, 2012. Things Better Left Behind. I hope you are all getting into the holiday spirit wherever you are! We’re in the single-digits in the “Countdown until Kelsey comes home! The lack of recycling and the plethora of trash everywhere. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve looked out the window of a marshurtka and seen piles of trash everywhere.
