國際上空間 地理 資訊科技市場逐年成長，以美國而言，空間 地理 資訊科技市場正每年以300 億美元快速成長，其中100 億美元於遙測市場方面，200 億美元在地理資訊系統方面，在教育方面至2003 年為止已投入相關GIS 軟體教學於1500 多所高中 以韓國而言，每年以30%成長率擴張，因此，在國際整體GIS 產業淨值上成長幅度相當大。 依據2007 年台灣地理空間資訊整體產業調查估計結果顯示，產業分為軟體、資料建置、硬體、應用服務等四類，產值分別為2.2 億、10.4 億、1,699 億與8.2 億，其中以硬體產業為最高，佔總產值98%。 2004 年美國勞工部發表的研究報告即指出，空間 地理 資訊科技(Geotechnology)將會與生物科技、奈米科技成為未來十年的三大重要新興產業。 2004 年北美地區的主要地理空間資訊廠商產值，合計即達到9.48 億美元，如下圖1 所示。 資料來源 Dara tech ,Inc.,地理空間資訊/Geospatial Markets and Opportunities. 電話 886-2-23931121 傳真 886-2-23931202.
