Gas Sweetening, hydrocarbon liquid sweetening

Hydrogen Sulphide, Carbon Dioxide and Mercaptans can be removed from Natural Gas by several processes, including:. Amine Plants (shown here) utilizing MEA, DEA, DGA, MDEA and MDEA based proprietary amines (for all three - effectiveness varies for Mercaptans). Molecular Sieves (H2S and Mercaptans). Batch processes such as Iron Sponge, Sulfa Check and Chem Sweet (H2S). Membranes (H2S) - proprietary process. Physical solvents such as Sulfinol and Ifpexol.
Gas processing to control hydrocarbon dewpoint (HCDP)

Most gas transmission companies have a Hydrocarbon Dewpoint (HCDP) specification that ensures that no free hydrocarbon liquids accumulate in their pipeline. Several processes are available, including:. Mechanical Refrigeration with electric motor or gas engine driven refrigeration compressor(s) (see picture below). Short cycle desiccant (silica gel) plant - see 2 Tower Open Cycle Hydrocarbon Recovery Unit (2TOC HRU) beside. Also see LPG Recovery.

Except for Refining, oil processing is limited to the following processes, normally done in the field:. Free Water Knockout(s) (FWKO). Satellite Packages (combining Separation and Metering). Treating (for water removal) Horizontal or Vertical, Packed or Electrostatic (usually with chemicals - Chem-electric treater). Produced water de-oiling by filtration or induced gas flotation.
