UnDead: October 2009
http://undead-doc.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
A medical doctors experiences and views from time spent on both sides of the so-called "blood-brain barrier". This week our president made some of the first positive statements. I have heard from the government regarding the AIDS epidemic in our country. Hopefully this will mark the end of the denial phase in the process of grieving. You may ask what is fuelling this rampage? Why seek help in the first place? I am of the opinion that HIV is no different from other chronic or terminal illnesses. It's ...

UnDead: January 2010

A medical doctors experiences and views from time spent on both sides of the so-called "blood-brain barrier". Three recent stories in the news here. Somewhat satirically), describe how some people are taking advantage of our high crime rate to make a bit of extra cash at the soccer world cup. Our government is understandably outraged at the suggestion that these "stab-proof vests" are even necessary, and that they are inciting fear. Unfortunately, fear sells. I certainly hope so. A medical doctors experiences and views from time spent on both sides of the so-called "blood-brain barrier". Technology has the power to amaze. There are always things being invented and improved on that I would never have thought were needed, or needed to improved upon. I suppose this is the inevitable course of progress, and the result of good marketing. Convincing someone they need something they never even thought or would have imagined even using before. All in the name of. Irregular, but palpable&...

UnDead: Bewitched
http://undead-doc.blogspot.com/2009/11/bewitched.html
A medical doctors experiences and views from time spent on both sides of the so-called "blood-brain barrier". I was reading some posts on magic here. And was reminded of an unconventional cure a family medicine lecturer related to us while still at medical school. He had developed it, in his time as a GP, for what is a common ailment in some South African cultural groups - "snakes in my belly". For all to see! And he/she was now cured! Posted by UnDead Doctor. Labels: irritable bowel syndrome. View my co...

UnDead: Survival
http://undead-doc.blogspot.com/2009/12/survival.html
A medical doctors experiences and views from time spent on both sides of the so-called "blood-brain barrier". Sometimes our patients survive, despite our best efforts. I was reminded of a remarkable patient I looked after a while back. I use the term "looked after" in it's loosest sense. He was a resident in my ward for a while, and I made conversation with him everyday while he was there. And didn't do much else. He was a young man, who had gotten in a fight, and had been skewered by an assegaai. Surgeo...

UnDead: Expect the Unexpected
http://undead-doc.blogspot.com/2009/12/expect-unexpected.html
A medical doctors experiences and views from time spent on both sides of the so-called "blood-brain barrier". Leaks in the anaesthesia circuit. Are relatively commonplace. For this reason we run through specific tests of the machine and ventilator to check for any faults at the start of every day. Even so, leaks still occur. The most common culprits in my experience are a faulty ETT. I recently had to deal with one of these unpleasant situations. I had checked my machine. At the start of the day. Not...

Thursday, March 7, 2013. Being a Hermit or Hibernating? Hibernate - animal/plant - spend the winter in a dormant state - person - remain inactive or indoors for an extended period of time. Hermit - person living in solitude as a religious discipline. Which of these applies to me at the present time? Praying with you Beryl. April 2, 2013 at 7:10 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Berylsbranch: September 2013
http://berylsbranch.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 13, 2013. This photo shows an area of mussel covered rock where I spent some time. I noticed the large number of mussels of varying size - with larger ones being closer to the water line/ rock-water interface, and the decrease in size the further they were from the water's edge. Which got me to thinking. And, of course, the mussels are available as food to whomever walks along the beach or is in search of a meal - irrespective of status in life. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
