It was therefore a particular delight to be invited to perform four or five of Leslie Norris’ Christmas poems in a church meeting a few years ago. It would require a bit of a drive on Sunday morning which, in Utah, is risky in late December but as it turned out, traveling allowed some time for reflection and helped me to settle into the rhythm of Norris’ vocabulary. This is what poetry is for; so when we lift our head from the poem, we will see the world alongside angels, along another angle of light. I try to make sure that poetry is there with me, at least during vespers. For example, tonight Jane Kenyon had me stand beside her in an upstairs room, going over. Evening at a Country Inn.
