This blog . . . Aug 1st, 2015 By Ian Poulton. Does a story have to be true to be true? Are there stories that are apocryphal, stories that are told of many different people in many different places, that are without factual basis, but tell a truth about a people, a place, a community? Anyway, the canon and the parish priest had always been great friends and one day the parish priest said to the canon, ‘Why doesn’t that driver of yours get himself a new suit? The parish priest suggested to the canon that ...

What was going through the minds of the people who followed Jesus? Jesus responds to everyone, no matter how disagreeable they may be, with compassion. When we look at ourselves, can we say we follow his example? Wouldn’t it be likely that we would want nothing to do with most of the people Jesus accepts? Mail (will not be published) (required). The letters of the word “loaf” give us the initial letters of four words that help us think about the story of the feeding of the five thousand, “L” for “loaves”, “O” for “order”, “A” for “all”, and “F” for “filled.”. The loaves are a reminder to us that what we give to God can be used in ways that we do not expect, that small actions can have great consequences&#...

A hundred years after its foundation, what would Lucy Franks expect from the ICA here in Castletown? Wouldn’t she expect the women here to lead from the front? Where might we lead, though? This blog . . . What would you put in a memory box? Aug 6th, 2015 By Ian Poulton. How do we store our memories? How do we preserve those moments we would wish to keep forever? It’s a question that has been around for a long time. There was a Sunday morning, almost a decade ago, when we asked the question in church, how do we hold on to the special moments? From Lionel Bart’s musical. You never did see! It up with a ribbon. And put it in a box for me? So I could see it at my leisure. I’m so high. Photogra...

We read the Gospel passage from Mark Chapter 6 and we say , “This is the Gospel of the Lord” and there must be at least a few people who ask, “How on earth is there any good news in that story? Return, reject, refuse and reject are four words that capture a sense of Saint Mark Chapter 6 Verses 1-13. As Christians, as people who say we follow Jesus, do we follow his example? Jesus could have avoided a situation he knew would only bring unhappiness, but he goes and faces it. How readily do we face awkward things? Are we prepared to a...

God in The Garden: February 2011
http://godinthegarden.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
God in The Garden. An occasional series of reflections by Joakim. Monday 28 February 2011. Pussy Willow (Salix sp) against a blue sky. I'm starting to stir from my winter hibernation and get out into the garden as new life burgeons all around - how hard I find it to do so when days are short, windy, wet and dark! But I'm horrified to see I haven't blogged the garden since July. The other morning frogs were croaking in the patio pond - lo and behold, there was the frogspawn heralding this years tadpoles.
