When I got dehydrated from extreme diarrhea and blood loss, I knew I needed to get to the hospital. I had no idea I was in active labor. As my husband helped me to the taxi, I felt defeated, assuming that I would have to get an epidural and forgo my hopes for a natural birth. The doctor on call told me to push, so I did, and a minute later my first son was born.
