Proteas and native flowers grown fresh in beautiful south-eastern tasmania. Monday, May 25, 2015. Colourful Summer Backyard Wedding. This January it was my pleasure to create some flowers for a simple backyard wedding in Hobart. The weather was warm and the yard had been planted out with lots of colour to create a gorgeous environment for the ceremony. I used some fresh poppy pods in both the bouquet and the boutonniere. I love the shape and that gorgeous matte green! Such a gorgeous colour palette!

Swallows Nest Farm: Winter around the Farm
https://swallowsnestfarm.blogspot.com/2015/07/winter-around-farm.html
Proteas and native flowers grown fresh in beautiful south-eastern tasmania. Monday, July 6, 2015. Winter around the Farm. The road up to the farm on a misty day. I am often asked if winter is a quiet time around the farm … I guess in a temperate climate the main growing times are the warmer months. But with natives, there is always something flowering. Always! And it's not just the harvesting that we're busy with in winter. There are plenty of other activities going on. The newly cleared areas have reall...

Proteas and native flowers grown fresh in beautiful south-eastern tasmania. Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Native Spring Wedding Flowers. October is a brilliant month for native flowers. A bride is spoilt for choice! Last October I was privileged to be able to provide flowers for a wedding at MONA in Hobart. The bride and groom were from Sydney so NSW Waratah's were a perfect choice. My Telopea Speciosissima hybrids. Were just bursting with colour. One of the things I loved about this wedding was that the b...

Swallows Nest Farm: Hello Snow!
https://swallowsnestfarm.blogspot.com/2015/08/hello-snow.html
Proteas and native flowers grown fresh in beautiful south-eastern tasmania. Monday, August 10, 2015. After a cooler, wetter summer than usual, we are now experiencing a colder winter than usual. Last Monday most of Tasmania woke to a blanket of snow. It snowed in the capital city Hobart for the first time since 1986. With snow down to sea level in some areas, this was a newsworthy weather event. Last time we had snow at Swallows Nest Farm was mid-September 2013. The open flowers acted like cups for the s...

Swallows Nest Farm: October 2014
https://swallowsnestfarm.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Proteas and native flowers grown fresh in beautiful south-eastern tasmania. Monday, October 27, 2014. Spring means Waratahs, the irrepressible native flower that's bold and impossible to ignore! Waratah buds form at the end of long stems which grow mainly over the spring and early summer months. The buds swell over winter and in early spring, start to become a brighter red. The unfolding process can take some time, and I think the flowers are really beautiful during this stage. My Telopea Speciosissima a...

Swallows Nest Farm: April Wedding

Proteas and native flowers grown fresh in beautiful south-eastern tasmania. Sunday, July 26, 2015. In April 2015 I had the privilege of providing flowers for a beautiful wedding held here on the Tasman Peninsula. I had such a great time doing these flowers and have been lucky enough to receive some professional photographs to share. In my flower shed, the colours came together, using fresh native foliage and silvery greens, with shades of pink. This close up shows the colours and textures so well! With s...

Swallows Nest Farm: August 2014
https://swallowsnestfarm.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Proteas and native flowers grown fresh in beautiful south-eastern tasmania. Thursday, August 28, 2014. Leucadendron "Tall Red" is a bushy fast growing shrub that, like its name suggests, grows tall and red. For most of the year, the bracts and leaves are burgundy red. They are useful as a filler but really not a memorable plant. But over the winter months a transformation occurs as Tall Red produces its flowers. The bracts surrounding the pollen presenters lighten. Labels: early spring natives. I love pl...

Proteas and native flowers grown fresh in beautiful south-eastern tasmania. Saturday, June 14, 2014. Protea Repens - Sugarbush. Protea Repens are a species of protea that are widely grown due to their hardiness and versatility. They can be grown in a wide range of environments and are famous for being the first protea ever to be grown outside of South Africa, their native environment. The delicate pink tinting on the lighter coloured Repens accentuates the pointed triangular tips of the flowers. I am wor...
