http://www.confessionsofaplantgeek.com/2013/02/amorphophallus-konjac-corpse-flower.html
Botanophilia Books and Gardening Supplies. Monday, February 4, 2013. Amorphophallus konjac - Corpse Flower. I have a confession to make. Since my last post in fall, I've been feeling planted out. I didn't want to think about plants, and that's no way for a plant geek to feel. Hence, no posts. I'm starting to feel back to normal now, which leads to a 2nd confession. I've been thinking about plant sex a lot lately. (And apparently so has Joseph at Arrowhead Alpines. Are sending up flower stalks! I will be ...

Botanophilia Books and Gardening Supplies. Thursday, December 26, 2013. Summer (and fall) project Part 3. The last project I needed to finish for 2013 was far less fun, more stressful, and way more time consuming than the other two. In May we had 70 mph winds. I pulled into the nursery to find this:. Step 1 to fix this catastrophe had to be finished that night (after an already 10 hour day at work, why am I involved in two nursery businesses? Removal of the poly and the shade cloth. The pics were tak...

Confessions Of A Plant Geek: April 2015
http://www.confessionsofaplantgeek.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Botanophilia Books and Gardening Supplies. Tuesday, April 14, 2015. I've snapped a few photos in the last week of what's going on in the gardens. Lots of plants are now emerging and showing off already! Alchemilla mollis always emerges early and looks great. Popularity of this plant seems to have waned lately, but it's really a great one for texture. Eranthis hyemnalis has finally emerged, quite late due to being buried under a layer of leaves. Polemonium 'Heaven Scent' came through winter beautifully, i...

Botanophilia Books and Gardening Supplies. Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Lonicera villosa - Mountain Fly Honeysuckle. Most people hear the word honeysuckle and they think of either the invasive tartarian honeysuckle that takes over our forest lands or the flowering vine. The genus Lonicera. Is quite large however, and contains a number of excellent garden plants. One such plant is our native mountain fly honeysuckle, Lonicera villosa. Growth on my plant has been moderate to slow. It can reach up to 5...

Confessions Of A Plant Geek: July 2014

Botanophilia Books and Gardening Supplies. Wednesday, July 9, 2014. Jacob's Ladder - Polemonium 'Heaven Scent'. Jacob's Ladder is a commonly sold but completely under-used plant. This may sound somewhat oxymoronic but it's true. I see it for sale at practically every nursery I visit (it's even a popular seller! Gardeners talk about it, there are articles galore regarding a myriad of species and varieties; but I rarely see it when I visit gardens. Why? Heaven Scent' in May - Look how dark that foliage is!

Confessions Of A Plant Geek: January 2014
http://www.confessionsofaplantgeek.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Botanophilia Books and Gardening Supplies. Thursday, January 16, 2014. In 4 years of blogging I've mentioned Hostas, shown a couple of pictures of them, talked about snail and slug baits, and posted about our time at the AHS convention; but for some reason I've never specifically posted about them. I'm unsure why that is, but it's high time I remedy that. And yes, this will be a picture intensive post. Royal Standards') will even take full sun if they are kept consistently moist. Which brings us to m...

After visiting Dave Wanninger's garden I picked up my fellow botanophile, Boerner Botanic Garden hortie Jessica Cloninger, for a trip to Rotary Botanic Garden. I finally got to meet Rotary's director of horticulture, Mark Dwyer, in person and he gave us a brief tour. If you haven't been to rotary, I highly suggest a visit. And if you haven't read Mark's blog, you should check it out!

Confessions Of A Plant Geek: March 2015
http://www.confessionsofaplantgeek.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Botanophilia Books and Gardening Supplies. Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Lonicera oblongifolia - Swamp Fly Honeysuckle. The unintentional theme lately has been under-utilized native plants and their cultivars, so let's continue that shall we? Swamp Fly Honeysuckle, Lonicera oblongifolia,. Generally growing 3-4' tall and wide, L. oblongifolia. While certainly not as showy as a Hydrangea or some of the non-native honeysuckle species, Lonicera oblongifolia deserves wider garden use. It's great as a backgro...
