The Shadoxhurst Garden: Hawfinch In Packing Wood
http://theshadoxhurstgarden.blogspot.com/2015/06/hawfinch-in-packing-wood.html
Sunday, 21 June 2015. Hawfinch In Packing Wood. Rarely do patchwork birders get ornithological rewards in return for all the hours of walks through familiar trails in search of something out of the ordinary. But today it happened to me as a distant and dumpy Hawfinch decided to sit on top of a tall Spruce like a Tinsel star on a Christmas tree, giving me time to slowly correct my mistake that the bird was initially a Crossbill! Friday, 17 April 2015. Spring birds in the woods and in the garden. Blue tit foraging in the garden Blackthorn blossom, April 17th. A good year for Blackthorn blossom. Common Buzzard with Carrion Crow. During the last week I've made plenty of woodland walks around Orlestone Forest and Shadoxhurst. It's now the middle of April and with sunny skies and a rise in temperature, it's been no surprise our woodland migrants are slowly arriving here, all be it in low numbers. Tawny Owls are common and calling fro...

The Shadoxhurst Garden: December 2014
http://theshadoxhurstgarden.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Monday, 8 December 2014. Watching Starlings at Dungeness RSPB. Dungeness RSPB December 8th including 5 Little Egrets. Yesterday evening, at Denge Marsh, looking across the RSPB reserve, I could see a modest flock of Starlings wheeling across the sky performing a murmuration before roosting in the reed bed. So tonight, with a nice sunset predicted, I thought I'd walk along the approach track at dusk to see if the Starlings would repeat the show. Posted by Nick Green. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Monday, 25 May 2015. I saw this distant bird yesterday and first thought it was a shot at Goshawk, but taking all pics into account the feeling is it is a female Sparrowhawk.
