Growing Up Gulbranson

Tuesday, April 12, 2011. Picking sticks was a right of passage for us. After the first few days, you didn't care that you got a paycheck. You just wanted to be able to stay at home again. I think that these two may have got an earlier start than some of us! But by the time it was their turn Jana, Jared, Kara and Karli were married and gone. Kaelen was probably on his mission. Kyle and Garyn were out working the cows. So the task fell to these two. Good memories in the making. Dad's dream come true. 65279...

Growing Up Gulbranson: Family Pictures Over the Years

http://growingupgulbranson.blogspot.com/2011/04/family-pictures-over-years.html

Tuesday, April 12, 2011. Family Pictures Over the Years. Oh how photography has changed. How we have changed. And thankfully, how clothing has changed! Enjoy a walk through time. This may be the only time Jared and I got along as children. Don't we look happy? 65279;. Someone should have taken the curling iron away from Mom. I imagine Jana got hit with a comb or two for this picture. 65279;. 65279;. So many things wrong with this picture, the biggest one being Kara's hair. 65279;.

Growing Up Gulbranson: Consequences

http://growingupgulbranson.blogspot.com/2011/04/consequences.html

Tuesday, April 12, 2011. Mom and Dad always believed in consequences. But I guess it turned out okay. But I noticed over the years that they got a little lenient. So I would have hated to see what they would have done to us if we got kicked off the bus as Kasey and Korlyn did way back when. Walking all the way home from Prariedale Elementary. In the cold and snow. Now as a parent, I think, AWESOME! But those boys were tired when they got home. What grades were you boys in? April 12, 2011 at 6:58 PM.

Growing Up Gulbranson: February 2009

http://growingupgulbranson.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Monday, February 2, 2009. What ever happened to? Okay, ignore the dashingly handsome man and adorable child in. This picture. Instead focus on the tree in the background. Who remembers this tree? It was around for every occasion at the church, in later years it did not look so good, the affects of many a nursery child taking the rocks out of the bottom and youth clinging to its branches. I wonder where that old tree is now, maybe Jana could shed some light on this question for the ages.

Growing Up Gulbranson: November 2008

http://growingupgulbranson.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 3, 2008. Okay, this may not be "the" three wheeler from our childhood. But I wanted to get every one's memories from this sweet little machine. My memories were triggered today as I took my friend dinner who was recently in a four wheeler accident and is very bruised and banged up. I have two specific memories from our blast from the past. One involves Mom and the other Kaelen. Sorry about that Kaelen, but no harm done, right? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Up Hill Both Ways: Reflections From Dad: December 2014

http://uphillreflections.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Up Hill Both Ways: Reflections From Dad. Tuesday, December 23, 2014. It looked like our chances of eating at our favorite restaurant were increasingly slimming. We hurriedly shuffled towards the crowded doors of the Cheesecake Factory, our frustration and disappointment growing with each step. So far our plans for celebrating our 3. So there we sat, just outside the throng of people waiting for their tables. Coveting got the best of us as we struggled to change our plans. Images of cheesecake, ch...Runni...

Up Hill Both Ways: Reflections From Dad. Friday, July 31, 2015. I too hold all those things sacred. At the end of the day, nothing takes precedence over my family and my faith. However, there is one item in my father’s office that commands my attention every time I enter that room. It too reveals a key principle and enduring legacy within the Gulbranson family; one that I have grown to appreciate even more with the passage of time. Up Hill Both Ways: Reflections From Dad: I Am Dull

http://uphillreflections.blogspot.com/2015/04/i-am-dull.html

Up Hill Both Ways: Reflections From Dad. Friday, April 10, 2015. We quickly discovered that metal broom and mop handles were more suitable upgrades over our traditional poplar swords. They were lightweight, prefabricated, and they perfectly mimicked the clinking sounds made by actual swords. The only thing we had to do was sneak them away from Grandma’s cleaning closet, remove the heads, and attach our duct tape handles. They were glorious! With shock and fear, I watched Korlyn barrel towards the house c...

http://uphillreflections.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Up Hill Both Ways: Reflections From Dad. Friday, January 23, 2015. This is an interesting time in our history in regards to freedom of speech. At no other time has it been easier to voice your opinion and be heard by so many people in such little time. Outlets like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube have made amazing contributions to freedom of speech. However, they have also made us more lazy and oblivious to our responsibility of speech. 8220;He murdered innocent women and children! 8221; they shrieked.

Up Hill Both Ways: Reflections From Dad. Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Oliver - Year 1. So in honor of his first year, I am going to provide a little glimpse into the wonderful world of Oliver. Maybe years from now he can look back at this and see just how awesome life was in his first 12 months. Or he could readily show this to a future therapist and pin point the roots of his deep seeded issues. Either way, this will be helpful, if not enjoyable. Dad’s Favorite Proud Father Moment. The date is December 25.

I am currently on a fellowship at the Globe and Mail, working on an in-depth feature entitled Hijacked: When Learning Disabilities Take Over. The temperature was over 100 degrees and it was a run day; day 2 of week 2 of my new running program. But I felt pretty good on my short walk. So I made myself a deal – walk to the gym and do my run on the treadmill rather than outside in the heat. Done!
