Hackney People First is a user-led Self Advocacy organisation that is run by, and for, adults with a learning disability in Hackney. We have been around since the 1980's to raise awareness and campaign for the rights of people with a learning disability to get what they are entitled to. We work to empower people to have a voice.

We run a self advocacy group once a month on a Wednesday evening where members come to speak up about things that are important to them. It also gives them a chance to meet up with old friends and make new ones. We can help you to make your information accessible to people with a learning disability and give you guidance and advice on accessibility issues.

Self Advocacy means that even though a person with a learning disability may ask for support from others, they still have the right to be in control. Self Advocacy is about having the right to make your own decisions. Self Advocacy is about not being controlled or affected by others who might have their own interests.

Breakfast with foraged grapes. September 26, 2012, 12:34 pm. It is that time of the year where I cycle about dumbfounded at the amount of organic seasonal locally produced food going to waste. If you live in Hackney get your arse down to Sandbrook Road, N16 (just off Church Street). At the north end there is a wall dripping with grapes which I have never seen anyone else harvest.
